Homeless Man Robbed, Instagram Threat Reported

Recent La Grange police reports include a woman with a squirrel that wouldn't leave her kitchen, a theft at a downtown business, fire damage on Bluff and more.

Monday, September 9

Theft at Downtown Boutique 

Someone stole more than $500 from Frill Accessories Boutique, 6 S. La Grange Rd., about 3:15 p.m. The store’s owner told police she believes an employee may have stolen from the store. The incident is under investigation.

Man Reports Suspicious Mail From Healthcare Company 

A resident in the 0-100 block of Edgewood Lane reported he received a suspicious letter in the mail from Advocate Healthcare indicating his identity was on a computer that was stolen. The letter indicated he could contact the three credit reporting agencies and savemyid.com, police said. Nothing was stolen, and no one was charged.

Instagram Threat

A woman reported her daughter received a threat via instagram about 1 p.m. The threat is under investigation, police said.

Driving Without a License 

Police charged David Hernandez, 28, of Hodgkins, with driving without a license during a traffic stop near the intersection of La Grange Road and 48th Street. He was given three citations and an Oct. 11 court date.

Suspicious Person Report 

Someone reported a man who was talking on a payphone, then walked on the train tracks in the 0-100 block of Burlington Avenue about 5 p.m. While police did not arrest the man, a 51-year-old Lyons resident, the Secret Service Office of Chicago was contacted after he made numerous threats about the Obamas, police said.

Truck Runs Into Train Gate

A semi-truck hit the gate at Burlington Avenue and La Grange Road about 6 p.m., police said.

Driving Without a License

Police charged Sergio Garcia-Abrego, 32, of Chicago, with driving without a license in the 0-100 block of Burlington Avenue about 7 p.m. He was given an Oct. 11 court date and released.

Bike Stolen 

A woman reported someone stole her son’s bike from her neighbor’s driveway in the 300 block of La Grange Road Sunday morning.

Sunday, September 8

Unwanted Houseguest Won't Leave 

A woman in the 200 block of South 9th Avenue reported a squirrel in her kitchen wouldn’t leave about 9:30 a.m. The responding officer reported the squirrel was sent out the window.

Notre Dame Flag Stolen  

Someone stole a Notre Dame flag from a porch in the 0-100 block of North Drexel Avenue about 10:45 a.m. The total estimated loss is $50, police said. 

Homeless Man Robbed in Gordon Park  

A man reported he was robbed in Gordon Park Saturday while he was sleeping on a bench. The man told police he was highly intoxicated and passed out when someone took $400 out of his pocket. Police said the man believes another homeless person may have robbed him.

Cigarettes Cause Fire Damage on Bluff

A resident in the 300 block of Bluff Avenue reported her neighbors threw cigarette butts out the window onto some mulch in the yard, causing damage to the building. She told police a smoldering cigarette caused the cement at the base of the building to turn black about 5 p.m.

Vandalism

Someone destroyed a garden area in Denning Park about 5:20 p.m.

Resident Requests Watch for Dumpster Divers 

A resident in the 300 block of Bluff requested extra watch on dumpsters about 7:30 p.m. because of the garbage pickers that would be coming around in the early morning hours.

Bike Stolen 

Someone stole a men’s bike from outside a house in the 0-100 block of Bluff sometime Saturday, Sept. 7.
