Top 10 Mistakes ALL Runners/Fitness Enthusiasts Often Make #4

#4 Starting Too Fast

Many runners and fitness enthusiasts begin their training and feel they can run more, lift heavier, or workout longer than the scheduled training plan created by their personal trainer or coach indicates. What do they do? They go a few extra miles, 15 extra minutes, add 1 more set. There is a reason for gradually increasing mileage each week and slowly adding weight to your strength program. You need to give your body time to recover and adapt to get stronger. If you feel really strong when you begin training and want to run more, add minutes, or double your weights, PLEASE resist the temptation. By always doing extra, you are substantially increasing the likelihood of injury and overtraining. Stay with a gradually building plan, no more than 10% more miles each week. Add weight to your lifting routines or extra minutes to your cardio at the gym in a similar manner, slow and steady. Believe in yourself and have patience. Achieve your goal!
