La Grange Police to Increase Downtown Parking Enforcement

La Grange police will begin enforcing premium downtown parking spaces later this month to help free up spots and make sure they're used by patrons, not employees.

Village manager Bob Pilipiszyn addressed the issue in a letter to businesses and invited owners to a discussion at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 25 at Village Hall.

“Your business and many others have made downtown La Grange rather successful, but these successes have brought added parking demands, especially on weekends," he said in the letter.

The expanded enforcement will begin June 28 and will occur after 3 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The enforcement area is between Cossitt to the south, Ashland to the west, Burlington to the north and the alley between La Grange Road and 6th Avenue to the east.

Village officials and business leaders met last month to discuss possible parking solutions, including Cossitt School parking, increased valet and more. One of the most feasible, quick solutions mentioned was this increased enforcement. Read more about that meeting here

The purpose is to keep those free, premium spaces open for customers. Pilipiszyn said in the letter that the average commercial downtown on-street parking space can generate up to $300 daily in retail sales, or $70,000 annually

He included a map with the letter that indicated where employees should be parking: in the deck behind Village Hall, Lot 2 (6th and Harris), Lot 4 (Ashland and Harris) and in the designated employee parking in Lot 5 (Ashland and Calendar), as well as any other spot outside of the special enforcement zone after 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday

Employees will be free to bring their cars closer to their workplace after 10 p.m. so they do not have to walk to remote lots late at night.
