Man Guilty of Murdering Aunt in La Grange Park

A 51-year-old man was found guilty Friday of the 2009 murder of his 81-year-old aunt in La Grange Park, La Grange Park Police Chief Dan McCollum said Friday.

Police arrested and charged David Brown on October 29, 2009 for the murder of his aunt, Gertrude Franklin, in her home at 1017 Barnsdale Road, McCollum said.

The woman was severely beaten and died on November 12, 2009, from injuries she received during the assault, he said.

Fourth District Cook County Judge Noreen Love on Friday found Brown guilty on 13 charges, including 6 counts of first degree murder. Brown, who was on parole in 2009 when the crime was committed, has been in custody since his arrest.

The Cook County State's Attorney's Office was not immediately available for comment.

Sentencing is scheduled for December 12, 2013 in Maywood.
