Marcia Mrazek, Neighbor

I am the volunteer coordinator for CatNap from the Heart, your local animal shelter for cats, birds and small mammals.  I also participate in humane education, bringing information on responsible pet ownership to scout troops, school functions, and other meetings when requested.  My cat, Cheyenne, and I are currently preparing to be evaluated as a pet partners team for Delta Society, to increase our involvement with animal assisted therapy and animal assisted activities.

I am a local girl, born at MacNeal Hospital, raised in North Riverside. I have lived in the greater Chicagoland area most of my life, and am currently a resident of Brookfield.  I attended Komarek School, Riverside-Brookfield HS, Illinois Wesleyan University, Triton College, and finally earned a Bachelors of Arts from Northern Illinois University in 2008.

My appreciation of journalism began at Triton, where I served first as advertising manager and then managing editor of The Fifth Avenue Journal.  Unfortunately, the "real world" got in the way, and I left the field.  I am thrilled to be back in my own small way, with Adopt Me!, a weekly article featuring adoptable animals from CatNap from the Heart.
