Tips From a Vet: Is Your Pet Ready for Warm Weather?

While it was nice to have such a mild winter and such a warm spring, it could have some consequences come summer. The warmer weather could mean more ticks, fleas and mosquitoes looking to dine on your dog. Luckily, La Grange Park has a new vet who knows her stuff. Dr. Susan Dowd, owner of Arbor Animal Hospital, 14 E. 31st St., in La Grange Park, said it’s easier to deal with problems (and cheaper too) with a little foresight. Since opening up her new clinic in La Grange Park, Dowd said the response from the community has been amazing. She's seen over 500 pets since opening in March, with nearly half her clients from the practice she worked at previously in Brookfield making the transition with her. Snow on the Way Despite Unseasonably Warm Winter

Unseasonably warm weather continues into February as the remaining days of winter melt away.

The weatherman is calling for snow today, Friday. So what? After all, it is February. The forecast is making news because little snow has fallen this winter—Illinois’ sixth warmest on record. State climatologist Jim Angel of the Illinois State Water Survey says the average temperature in January for the state was 31.4 degrees. That's about 7 degrees above normal, making January the 13th warmest on record. The average temperature for December and January was 33.4 degrees. That makes it the sixth warmest December-January period since 1895. The warm weather, of course, has meant less snow. Chicago snowfall for December and January totaled just 13.9 inches, half of the 27.3 inches that fell in December and January a year ago. However, the …
