Election 2012: Were La Grange and La Grange Park Obama or Romney Towns?

Complete precinct-level results for Tuesday's election in La Grange and La Grange Park, including turnout and how the data stacks up against other LTHS-area towns.

The Cook County Clerk's Office has released the complete information for all Cook precincts in Tuesday's election. We did a bit of work and ran the numbers to find out how Western Springs and neighboring towns voted, and how turnout was. In an election year where turnout dipped nationally to 57.5 percent, La Grange, La Grange Park and other nearby towns excelled, all bringing out 70-80 percent turnout. Along with the nation, both La Grange and La Grange Park voted to re-elect President Obama, with the President recieving 54.7 and 57.9 percent of the vote in those communities, respectively. In contrast, Western Springs went for Romney. The President won every precinct in La Grange Park, but results were more mixed in La Grange, from Lyons 7…

Election 2012: La Grange and Western Springs Results

Check out the vote totals for races affecting La Grange, La Grange Park and Western Springs, including the 3rd and 5th congressional districts, 24th State Senate and Cook County Board.

While the elephant (and donkey) in the room this Election Day is the presidential race, people are also heading to the polls to vote for federal and state representation, as well as local referenda. We've got a roundup of results for races affecting the La Grange and Western Springs area, including: 24th Senate: Kirk Dillard (R) vs. A. Ghani (D) State Constitutional Amendment: Also on the ballot is an amendment to the state constitution that would require a three-fifths majority for any government body to change its pension system. Both conservative and liberal lobbying groups have lined up against this amendment, saying it's bad policy and doesn't address the problems with the state's pension burdens. 3rd District: Dan Lipinski (D) vs. …

The Race for President: How Illinois Voted

What will 2012 ballots in northern Illinois show about President Obama's support at home?

Updated at 3 a.m., Chicago time By Dennis Robaugh After NBC and CNN projected President Obama's re-election, the president sent a message shortly thereafter on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you." Illinois, of course, was never in play. Our state's 20 electoral votes were stuck in the president's back pocket as far back as his inauguration in 2008. But in 2008's historic election, President Obama carried every collar county in northern Illinois. In 2012, the president narrowly lost out to Mitt Romney in Kane County, Kendall County and McHenry County, with 99 percent of precincts reporting. Voter turnout again was very strong. Local polling places even reported lines at 6 a.m. with voters waiting to get…

Taxation is a one of the most complicated areas of law, but your tax law articles make it so clear. You must be one of the most professional U.S. tax attorneys or you know a lot of people who deserve this name. This is the type of lawyers I want to see in my attorney directory created to help people to find an appropriate attorney immediately. This is the category of my directory with contacts of…   more ›

Who Won Illinois' Congressional Races?

Find coverage of the various congressional matchups throughout the Patch network.

While many of northern Illinois' congressional races left little in the way of doubt, a few provided down-to-the-wire drama and competitiveness. Judy Biggert and Bill Foster were in a dead heat as Election Day approached, with Foster emerging victorious, according to unofficial totals. And Joe Walsh and Tammy Duckworth engaged in a bitter mudfest, with Walsh being tossed out by voters. Jesse Jackson Jr. didn't campaign at all, citing health issues, yet won-reelection, and Adam Kinzinger, Dan Lipinski, Danny Davis and Peter Roskam didn't feel they had to. Coverage of the various congressional races can be viewed throughout the Patch network.

One has to remember that the districts were all redrawn to (heavily) favor the Dems, so really no surprise on the congressional races. One has to shake their head, however when one who was booted out by his peers was voted back in, and another who has been absent for months was also re-elected. Put a corpse on the ballot with a -D next to his name and some will automatically vote for the corpse.   more ›

Obama Supporters at McCormick: 'We Know He's Going to Win'

Obama supporters from around the suburbs and the city of Chicago waited to see the president during an election night rally in McCormick Place.

Waiting for the president to arrive at McCormick Place on election night, supporter Ignacio Ayala of Plainfield said he hoped the night would bring some of the same excitement as the rally in Grant Park in 2008. "I hope it's the same," said Ayala. "That was big." More than 10,000 people are expected to rally around President Barack Obama as he and his campaign members await election results tonight. Like Ayala, other Obama supporters said they, too, were hopeful that the election results would bring cause for celebration. Elvin and Nicole Knox, from Homewood, said they had been checking predictions on CNN and Politico all day. Nicole said she had voted for Bush in 2004, and her husband said he had voted for Bush or had not voted at all. …

Terry, I agree with you on so many levels.. A president who had no budget for four years? Obviously ~ look at how he spends money! Then he borrows, so he can spend more. We know exactly where he wants this country to land, smack into the lap of socialism, which, btw, is a step above communism. Those who can't see thru him by now ought to educate themselves. He is one demon! and the sheep who …   more ›

Wall St. Journal and AP Call Illinois for Obama

About 15 minutes after the polls closed, news media sources put Illinois in the Obama column, giving the president 20 electoral votes.

President Barack Obama won Illinois’ 20 electoral votes on Tuesday, defeating Republican Mitt Romney. Illinois, of course, was never in play. The only visit the president made to his home state late in the campaign came Oct. 25, when he returned to the South Side to cast an early ballot at the Martin Luther King Community Center. Obama is the first president to ever vote early in a presidential election.  The Wall St. Journal and the Associated Press called the state about 15 minutes after the polls closed. The president's handling of the economy is a major factor in many voters' decision this year. "This election bears serious significance for our future," said Sheila Brady of Orland Park, outside her Fernway Elementary School polling …

Well the stock market has lost big in the last week, employers are laying off people in droves, the Middle East is exploding, 4 Americans are dead in Benghazi, our military is in the middle of sex scandals and there's possible coverups by the Obama administration. The only smart voting will be to impeach Obama.   more ›

Turnout Around 80-90 Percent at Some La Grange, Western Springs Precincts

Residents of La Grange, Western Springs and La Grange Park braved a persistent drizzle on Election Day to cast their votes for everything from president to local offices.

One of the coolest stories we found from the polls today was at Lyons Township High School North Campus, a voting location for Lyons Township Precinct 15, where a couple of kids too young to cast their own votes were participating in a different way.  Lyons Township junior Serhiy Kondratyuk and Riverside-Brookfield junior Kellie Clinton were serving as election judges for Precinct 14, under laws that allow juniors and seniors to serve as judges if they are U.S. citizens with 3.0+ GPAs. “I thought this would be a great way to get involved, because I love participating in government, and I thought that this would be a great experience,” Kondratyuk said. “It’s a lot of work, but again, it’s a lot of fun and you get to really appreciate the …

Technically, they didn't -have- to tell me anything. Nobody has to talk to the media. All they had to do under the rules was allow me to be there. But what a stark difference between them and the friendly election judges in Forest Hills (Western Springs) who seemed legitimately excited to see me and tell me about their excellent turnout.   more ›

'Mr. Grabowski Wants To Go To Washington'

GOP candidate and everyman Rich Grabowski says God is leading the way in his campaign to become Illinois's 3rd District congressman.

Richard L. Grabowski wants to be your next congressman representing Illinois's 3rd Congressional District. Known as Rich to his family, friends and supporters, Grabowski has been crisscrossing Illinois’s 3rd District that spans Chicago’s Southwest Side neighborhoods in the heart of Mike Madigan-country, west to Lemont, LaGrange and Western Springs, to the southern stretches of New Lenox, Homer Glen and Romeoville. Handily winning a three-person Republican primary—one of the candidates was a neo-Nazi who didn’t believe the Holocaust happened—Grabowski is confident he will beat the Democrat heir-apparent Dan Lipinski. Grabowski calls himself and Lipinski, both Polish Americans, “two skis in a downhill ski race” against powerful Illinois …
