Whether you are going to Ravinia for a concert under the stars, or staying closer to home, here are some suggestions for a dressy picnic.

Walking among the farmers’ offerings, I get inspired each week to make something new.  Items that showed up at the La Grange market this week were Michigan cherries and two types of strawberries. The small, dark red ones are very sweet and reminiscent of the ones we picked as kids along the roadside. The larger ones have a slightly less intense color and are a bit tart. I picked up both kinds, as well as some cherries. Corn is not ready yet in the Midwest, though Skibbe featured corn from Georgia. I picked up a few ears and learned how to judge if corn is fresh when you buy it at the supermarket. If you push your thumb nail into a kernel and the juice squirts out, it most likely just got unloaded from the truck. Scratch Bakery has a great …
