Man Charged with Indecent Solicitation after Online Chats with Police

The Joliet man communicated online with a Western Springs investigator that he thought was a 15-year-old girl.

Updated, 3:45 p.m. A Joliet man was charged with indecent solicitation of a child after police said he made inappropriate overtures to a Western Springs investigator posing on Craigslist as a 15-year-old girl. Kevin J. Ethridge, 47, of the 1000 block of Magnolia Avenue, was arrested in his Joliet home Thursday after an investigation that began in September 2012. People in SUV Film Kids, Ask if They Want Candy: Police

The man and woman approached two separate groups of boys Saturday evening in Western Springs, police said.

A man in an SUV appeared to film two separate groups of boys Saturday evening along Lawn Avenue in Western Springs while the female driver asked them if they wanted candy, police said. The woman told the boys the candy was in the back of the SUV, police said. She also asked if they “wanted to film some video” on an iPhone-type device the man was using. She did not try to actually touch the boys and drove away when they declined. The boys were between the ages of 9 and 14. Both incidents happened around 6:15 p.m. in the 4800 and 4900 blocks of Lawn Avenue, police said. Police Thwart In-Progress Burglary in Western Springs

The teenage suspect was taken into custody at the scene and charged with residential burglary, police said.

Western Springs police stopped a home burglary in progress Friday afternoon when they apprehended a 15-year-old Melrose Park teen at the scene of the incident. The teen had kicked in a rear basement door of an unoccupied home in the 1400 block of 39th Street before police responded to the burglary, according to the report.  After 30 minutes, officers convinced the teen to leave the house and took him into custody. Investigators found items that they said the teen intended to steal scattered inside the home. Police charged the teen with criminal damage to property, in addition to residential burglary. ----- Get more Patch updates:

MONDAY, JAN. 28 Cassandra Flores, 21, of the 16400 block of 66th Avenue, Tinley Park, was stopped for speeding at the corner of Franklin and Ogden avenues and charged with driving wtih a suspended license, police said. Malcolm J. Adams, 55, of the 500 block of North Lavergne Avenue, Chicago, was stopped for erratic driving at the corner of 55th Street and Interstate 294 at 12:21 p.m. and was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. -- Police Blotter information is provided by local law enforcement agencies. SUNDAY, JAN. 20 Anthony J. Deacy, 49, of the 1200 block of Leverenz Road, Naperville, was stopped for speeding at the corner of Ogden Avenue and I-294 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after failing field sobriety tests, police said. The defendant was also charged with failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. Serial Hair-Salon Robber Prompts WSPD Alert

The robberies have occurred in the north and northwest suburbs, fairly far from Western Springs or La Grange, but have nonetheless incited a cautionary warning from police.

A series of hair-salon robberies in the north and northwest Chicago suburbs, apparently all committed by the same man, has prompted a business crime alert to area salons from the Western Springs Police Department. Though none of the robberies are from Western Springs, La Grange or any of the near surrounding communities, nearly a dozen salons in north- and northwest-suburban strip malls have been hit by the robber. The suspect is described as being white/Hispanic, 30-45, between 5’7” and 6” tall, 200-230 lbs, “wearing a black or dark colored jacket, blue jeans, sunglasses during the day, a grey or dark colored knit cap, dark gloves, gray or blue gym shoes (with stripes), a scarf covering his face (black and tan), unshaven, and carrying a …

Gurga, 67, of the 5600 block of Forest Hill, Clarendon Hills, was stopped at the corner of 55th Street and Interstate 294 at 10:26 p.m. for driving with a suspended registration plate and was charged with driving with a revoked license, police said. FRIDAY, JAN. 11 Someone attempted to break into a home on the 4900 block of Commonwealth Avenue sometime between 10:15 a.m. and 11 a.m., likely intending to burglarize it, police said. MONDAY, DEC. 17 Someone reportedly entered an unlocked vehicle parked in a garage on the 4800 block of Woodland Avenue sometime between 9:00 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 a.m. Monday and stole a purse containing documents, credit cards and other items.
