Another Windy Snowstorm Set to Hit on Tuesday Night

Winds of 30 miles per hour and snowfall of up to six inches are expected as another winter weather pattern blows through the Midwest this week.

Another winter storm is brewing, running a diagonal path from north Texas to Michigan, and guess what: La Grange and Western Springs are in the way! The blizzard is forecast to lose a bit of steam by the time it reaches us (Kansas City might get a foot and a half!), so don't go crazy or anything, but it's looking like we'll definitely get a few more inches, followed by occasional flurries for a couple more days. And it'll even stick around: as we move into March, there are few signs of a super-early thaw with most highs still below freezing. Here's your weather: Monday: Partly sunny during the day, mostly cloudy at night. High 30s during the day, low 30s at night. Tuesday: Cloudy and extremely windy with a 90 percent chance of snow and …

Rain, Light Snow and Oscillating Temperatures Ahead

A warm and wet Monday, a cool Tuesday, and then some weather all over the place (freezing drizzle!) for the rest of the week.

It's lukewarm and wet! No, it's cold and sunny! No, it's raining... and now the rain is freezing! It's actually all over the place this week as a February tumult swamps the La Grange and Western Springs area. Here's your weather: Monday: Cloudy, rainy and windy during the day, cloudy and windy with wintry rain/snow at night. Mid 40s during the day, high 10s at night. Tuesday: Cloudy and windy with scattered flurries during the day, partly cloudy and blustery at night. Low 20s during the day, high 0s at night. Wednesday: Sunny during the day, partly cloudy at night. Mid 20s during the day, low 20s at night. Thursday: Mostly cloudy and windy during the day, cloudy and windy with freezing drizzle at night. Light Snow, Then Temperatures Above Freezing Ahead

Temperatures level out a bit this week after last week's wild rise and fall, edging above freezing by the weekend.

After last week's wacky extremes, plunging from 65 degrees to 0 in about the same time it takes to chill a drink (hyperbole), the weather should level out a bit this next week in the area. The big blizzard is still holding off, and may never happen for the second year in a row, but if you're reading this on Monday morning, you should see a bit of white outside, and that should continue through the day. Until warmer temperatures at the end of the week rub it out, anyway.  Here's your weather: Monday: Cloudy with a light falling snow during the day, mostly cloudy at night. Mid 20s during the day, high 0s at night. Tuesday: Cloudy with a 50 percent chance of snow flurries during the day, mostly cloudy at night. Low 30s during the day, high …

60-Degree Tuesday, Then 0-Degree Thursday Night

Crazy week of weather ahead! Be on ice watch as a warm rain should fall early on, followed by a ridiculously huge temperature drop.

Weather just doesn't make sense anymore. What machinations of the gods could possibly explain how temperatures this week are forecasted to drop 60 degrees in less than 48 hours? Whatever the reason, it can only mean one thing when a load of rain is followed by a snap freeze: ice, and lots of it. Better drive really, really carefully in the latter half of this week... Here's your weather: Monday: Cloudy with a 40 percent chance of rain during the day, cloudy with a 70 percent chance of rain at night. Mid 40s during the day, high 40s at night. Tuesday: Cloudy and windy with an 80 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms during the day and into the night. Low 60s during the day, mid 30s at night. Wednesday: Cloudy and very windy with a 30 …

The system made me moderate this comment, not sure why. Maybe "virgin" is an instant red-flag, even if the topic is olive oil?   more ›

Freezing Cold Temperatures All Next Week, Windy Monday

Finally! The warm spell has finally broken and real freezing temperatures have arrived. If you've been waiting for skating weather, it's on its way!

Baby, it's cold outside, and it's about time too! Look, we like warm weather and not having to shovel snow as much as anyone, but having a second super-mild winter in a row has just been feeling kind of wrong! We could handle one enormous blizzard, just one, and while it doesn't look like that's coming this week, at least the temperatures for it are forecast, and we might get some snow showers midweek, too. Here's your weather: Monday: Partly cloudy and blustery during the day, partly cloudy and very cold at night. Low 10s during the day, low 0s at night. Tuesday: Mostly sunny during the day, mostly cloudy at night. Low 10s during the day, high 0s at night. Wednesday: Mostly cloudy during the day, mostly cloudy with a chance of flurries at…

No, Darren, we do NOT want a super blizzard. A nice 3" storm in February and then gentle rains in March and April to replenish the groundwater.   more ›

Sunny Week, No Snow, Highs in the 30s

Our fairly pedestrian winter continues with no particular threat to your commute or need to fire up the snowblower.

So I'm wondering: How are people feeling about not having snow so far for the second straight winter? Personally, I'm OK with it. I like snow for sledding and downhill skiing, but here in the Midwest, God's ironing board, there aren't a lot of options for that, which means the white stuff is mostly a hassle. Of course, if you're 10 and desperately want to build a snowman or chuck snowballs at your friends, you might disagree. But with clear skies this week, you're out of luck. Again. Sorry. Here's your weather: Monday: Sunny during the day, clear at night. Mid 20s during the day, mid 10s at night. Tuesday: Sunny during the day, clear at night. Low 30s during the day, low 20s at night. Wednesday: Partly cloudy and windy during the day, …

Calm Week, Chilly Tuesday Night Ahead

Nothing particularly spectacular coming up in this week's weather, but here's what we will be getting!

So how's the weather back home? Your local Patch editor is in Massachusetts for the holidays for a couple more days, and knows only about the storm he spend Sunday morning shoveling out of. Well, looking ahead, the forcast keeps La Grange and Western Springs free of snow for a while, though not free of some winter chill. Somewhat unremarkable weather, really, but we always do your WeatherWatch! Here's your weather: Monday: Cloudy during the day, mostly cloudy at night. Low 30s during the day, mid 10s at night. Tuesday: Partly cloudy during the day, mostly clear at night. Low 20s during the day, low 10s at night. Wednesday: Mostly sunny during the day, mostly cloudy at night. Mid 20s during the day, high 10s at night. Thursday: Mostly …

60-Degree Thanksgiving in La Grange, Western Springs!

Wow; do you believe it? Your Thanksgiving football could be shirts-and-skins as temperatures will remain remarkably warm throughout this week.

Call it global warming, call it coincidence, but even as we march towards the end of November—a time for snow, some might say!—we are instead seeing temperatures that look more like outdoor-sports weather. If your Thanksgiving Day plans involve football in a La Grange or Western Springs park, you will likely be enjoying some quite warm weather for the season; don't wear more than a T-shirt. And in general, keep the heavy clothing packed away... at least until Friday night (projected at below freezing.) Here's your weather: Monday: Mostly cloudy through the day and into the night. Mid 50s during the day, mid 40s at night. Tuesday: Mostly cloudy through the day and into the night. High 50s during the day, high 30s at night. Wednesday: Partly…

The article says we can call this coincidence, but that would necessitate ignoring science. 2012 is shaping up to be the warmest year for the contiguous United States ever recorded. Hurricane Sandy is only one way that we are paying for climate change. I plan on enjoying the warmth but voting for and working on solving this thing. http://www.csmonitor.com/Environment/2012/0920/Going-for-the-…   more ›

Chance of Flurries Monday, Warmer by Week's End

Residents of the LT area may see their first snowflakes today, but temperatures should be back up around 50 by the weekend.

I don't know about you, but I'm hoping we see a bit more snow this coming winter than we did the last. Not constant, so we're all digging out our cars on a regular basis, but just maybe one or two good storms? Last winter was kind of pathetic, man. It's possible we might get a good start today, as temperatures are going to take a sudden drastic dive below freezing, especially by night, and there's a chance of a few flakes. Nothing to cover the ground, and certainly nothing that will survive an weekend 50-degree day, but perhaps a harbinger of a whiter winter? We'll see! Here's your weather: Monday: Partly cloudy and windy with a chance of scattered flurries during the day, partly cloudy and cold at night. Mid 30s during the day, mid 20s at…

No Nighttime Freezes Forecast Yet This Week

Temperatures will stay relatively high, even perhaps into the upper 50's next weekend, with nighttime lows staying above or well above that magic 32-degree number.

For your local Patch editor, the countdown towards the first frost is one of dread, one towards a time when greens stop recieving pitches (and will soon close altogether) and imminent is the spectacle of trying to drive a Prius through two feet of snow. For others, it's a harbinger of snow castles and snowball fights and cross-country skiing. Each to their own! But I win this week: early November is looking largely mild. In fact, this weekend, nearly halfway through the month, there's forecasts up in the low 60's. So take that, snow! Let me get a few more rounds in, will ya? Here's your weather: Monday: Partly sunny during the day, partly cloudy at night. Mid 40s during the day, low 30s at night. Tuesday: Cloudy with a 50 percent chance of…
