Lyons Basketball Beats Waukegan, Makes Case for State Raking

The Lions move to 12-2 after overcoming prestigious Bulldogs program, 81-55.

One night after a comfortable victory over conference opponent Downers Grove North, Lyons Township replicated its success with another resounding win, this time over suburban power Waukegan, 81-55. The Lions move to 12-2 overall after dispatching the Bulldogs, and head Coach Tom Sloan wasn’t shy about expressing the team’s satisfaction. “It’s very exciting, I want the kids to be excited,” Sloan said. “Waukegan has been in the state final and semifinal the last two years and they’re very athletic. I thought we did a good job on the defensive glass, finished in traffic, and we had big contributions from everyone.” LT senior guard Nick Zeisloft scored a game high 20 points and was five of seven from the three point line. Lyons Boys Basketball Stomps Downers Grove North

Following tough loss in York tournament finale, Lions grab third conference victory with ease.

The scene was heartbreaking for any blue and gold clad supporter. An ecstatic Downers Grove South contingent contrasted the deflated Lyons Township players. A 56-55 overtime win for the Mustangs on Dec. 30 saw the Lions fall seconds short of repeating as Jack Tosh Holiday Classic champions. Friday night, however, Lyons responded to the trying defeat with a thumping of conference opponent Downers Grove North at home, 65-31. “A key point we made before the game was that we needed to come out with defensive intensity and set the tone early,” Lyons head coach Tom Sloan said. “I felt the guys did that. We wanted to make sure we came out with a lot of energy, to get up and down the floor and get the blood flowing early.” The hosts jumped ahead …
