A water main in downtown Western Springs broke early on Saturday morning, flooding the Village downtown, including the BNSF Metra tracks. Patch reader Jacob Metzger sent us the above photos, taken around 9 a.m. on Saturday. Metzger said that the break occurred at Hillgrove Avenue and Wolf Road, and temporarily disabled the Lawn Avenue crossing gates. Check out the photos above! A broken water main on Plainfield Road has caused facilities at Highlands Elementary and Middle schools to be closed for the day. Classes will resume on a normal schedule on Friday.
A water main break on Plainfield Road near La Grange Highlands Elementary and Middle schools caused the building to be closed for the day and classes canceled. The school alerted parents to the schools’ closing before classes began this morning, and posted an alert on their website at about 6:30 a.m. this morning. According to a spokeswoman at the school, afterschool activities and clubs will be canceled today as well. Classes and afterschool activities will resume tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 7 on a normal schedule. The water main break caused significant flooding near the school, and officials decided to cancel classes for the day because they didn’t no how long the water main would take a repair. Matt, The amount of money it takes to completly redo something like that is rather large, Look at Bluff Ave in La Grange, that took 3 years. They had to completly strip the road, underserface and sewage piping to get to the watermains. Western Springs (From what i know with their poor planing) it would take almost 5 or 6 for that to be possible.   more ›
