Six LTHS Track Athletes Earn USATF All-America Honors
Matt Harris, Emma Haugen, Makayla Hubbard, Sarah Kreikemeier, Lino Mogorovic and Stephanie Mogorovic achieve All-America honors with top-eight finishes at the USA Track & Field National Junior Olympic Championships in Wichita, Kansas.
Recent Lyons Township graduate Stephanie Mogorovic of Western Springs was elated to compete with the Zephyrs Track Club for the first time at the USA Track & Field National Junior Olympic Championships July 26-31 in Wichita, Kansas. Her only event was supposed to be the 1,600-meter relay in the Young Women age group for 17- and 18-year-olds. Then she also was thrown into the 3,200 relay as the first alternate when recent LT graduate Simone Bunsen injured her hamstring competing in the heptathlon. “I was in shock. I was kind of panicking and everyone was like, ‘Steph, you need to calm down. You’re going to do fine,’” Mogorovic said. “After about an hour, I was like, ‘It’s not a big deal.
