La Grange Pastor Accused in Sex Assault on 9-Year-Old Jailed on $750,000 Bail

The reverend at Second Baptist Church denies the charges but told police he raped the child's mother when she was 10 years old, said prosecutors.

The pastor of the Second Baptist Church of La Grange who is charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, accused of illegal sexual contact with a 9-year-old female relative, is being held on $750,000 bail. Prosecutors allege that two assaults took place on the weekend of Feb. 15-17 at Rev. Donald R. Jung's La Grange home on the 100 block of East Avenue, reports Sun-Times Media. The girl victim contacted her sister between the assaults, but they were unable to reach their mother, the outlet quotes prosecutors as saying. Prosecutors believe Jung was hosting three females over the weekend, whom he had picked up from Milwaukee on Feb. 15, the Chicago Tribune reports. Multiple outlets are reporting that while prosecutors say Jung …

David A. Mason, whose last known address was in Naperville, was sentenced to two concurrent six-year prison terms in February 2009 for the aggravated robbery of a Glen Ellyn gas station using a handgun and for participating in a scheme to steal electronics from Walmart stores and sell them over the Internet, according the Naperville Sun and the Suburban Life. Grand Jury Indicts Lyons Township Grad Donald Cuba in Connection with Rape

Donald Cuba, 20, of La Grange Park, a Lyons Township graduate and one-time National Merit semifinalist, has been charged in connection with a February sexual assault at Southern Methodist University, authorities said.

A grand jury in Dallas County, TX, has indicted 20-year-old Donald S. Cuba of La Grange Park on one count of sexual assault in connection with a Feb. 10 rape of a fellow student in a Southern Methodist University dorm, reports the Fort Worth Weekly. According to the SMU Daily Campus, university police posted a crime alert on Feb. 14 after a student reported a sexual assault by a “student acquaintance” in SMU’s Smith Hall the morning of the previous day. The Weekly also reports that Cuba was twice brought before an SMU internal judicial system, initially found guilty, then innocent upon appeal. A second appeal by the victim led to the indictment, the Weekly said. (SMU uses a highly confidential “conduct review process” to handle accusations…

Whether he is guilty or innocent of rape can be determined by a jury. But what is apparent here is this young man's appalling disrespect for women. No means no. Usually "wonderful", not-a-violent-bone-in-his-body people don't just get prosecuted for major violent crimes for no reason. Honestly, to be in that kind of position to begin with really makes you question this young man's character. I …   more ›

Lynn Hudoba: Sexual Abuse and the Developmentally Disabled

The Penn State scandal raises awareness of predators who target at-risk and vulnerable children.

Like everyone else, I watched in horror last week as the events unfolded in the child sex abuse scandal at Penn State. For parents of young children, it is unfathomable to contemplate something like this happening to your own child. Unfortunately, it is more common than we’d like to believe. Statistics show that around 15 percent of children are sexually abused before the age of 18. For girls, it’s more like 30 percent. And for developmentally disabled girls? 83 percent.  83 percent? 83 percent. Since this is a Patch opinion article, and not a research white paper, I won’t be footnoting the source for that statistic. But I could. It’s a statistic that I’ve heard thrown around a lot since I became the parent of a developmentally disabled …

What nobody really thinks of is the fact that children often abuse each other. All the abuse cases I personally know about happened between kids. Speaking out about it does not help. People freak out at the idea and immediately hide behind the "they are just kids" excuse.   more ›
