Catherine Pozen T.O. Carm., 81. Born July 13, 1931, died May 4, 2013, recently a resident of Plymouth Place Retirement Community. Loving mother of eight, Mary Duff, Denise Pozen, Margaret Kielczynski (La Grange Police Sergeant "Sarge Marge"), Norbert Pozen Jr., Joseph Pozen, Jeffrey Pozen, James Pozen and Stephen Pozen. Beloved grandmother of 11 and great-grandmother of seven. A devoted member of the Lay Carmelite Order, she was a generous missionary and found great satisfaction ministering to the poor. Gifted with a beautiful voice she was a member of the choir that performed for Blessed John Paul II at his Chicago mass in 1979 and again at the Vatican. Services Set for River Forest Student Killed in Indiana Accident
John Malone Jr., 20, died Saturday, May 4, after a car he was in rolled over while he and four friends were driving home fro Indiana University. Friends from Deerfield, La Grange and Wilmette were also injured.
Services have been set for a River Forest college student who died in a car crash Saturday on his way home from college. John J. Malone Jr. died Saturday, May 4, 2013. He was 20. He was ejected from the back seat of a car after a tire blew out on Interstate 65 in Indiana. Malone was driving home with four friends from the University of Indiana. Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, 203 S Marion St. in Oak Park. The funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, May 9, at St. Giles Church, 1025 Columbian Ave. in Oak Park. La Grange Park Postman, Invented 'Diplomacy' Game, Dies
Allan Calhamer grew up in La Grange Park, graduated from LTHS and spend much of his life as a mailman there—but also created the mass-selling game reportedly loved by the Kennedys.
Born and raised in La Grange Park, and having spent over two decades working as one of the Village's mailmen, the inventor of the board game "Diplomacy," Allan B. Calhamer, passed away at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital on Monday, The Doings La Grange reports. According to a detailed 2009 profile piece in Chicago Magazine, the Harvard-educated Calhamer created and published the pre-WWI alliance-strategy game—"a thinking-man's Risk"—in the 1950s, and it would go on to sell over 300,000 copies as well as being a favorite of politicians like the Kennedys and Henry Kissinger. “His mother encouraged him to have a big imagination, and he was always inventing board games,” childhood friend Gordon Leavitt told the magazine in 2009. “Lawyers …

Frank Jaros, 89, of Beach Park passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Kindred Kenosha South. Frank was born on April 25, 1923 in Cicero, IL, the son of the late Frank & Anna (Kouba) Jaros. He was educated in the schools of Chicago. He was a member of the U.S. Marines, serving during WWII. He married June Stastny on June 21, 1947 in Chicago. He was a carpenter, a builder, and later employed as Carpenter Superintendant for the Chicago Public Schools for many years. He was a member of the Suburban Garden Club of Western Springs, IL. His hobbies included gardening, golfing, poker, fishing, cheering for the Cubs, and most of all spending time with his family & friends.
