Monday, May 20 Between $800-$1000 worth of tools were stolen from an unlocked car parked overnight in the 500 block of South La Grange Road, La Grange police said. Jorge Covarrubias, 34, of the 2400 block of Glendale Terrace in Hanover Park, was arrested around 6:57 p.m. near the intersection of La Grange Road and Shawmut, police said. He was charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license. A blue, Gary Fischer women’s bike worth about $500 was stolen sometime between the winter and now from a garage in the 500 block of South Madison Avenue, police said. Friday, May 17 A white man in his 20s with long brown hair approached a man around 3:37 p.m. in the 500 block of South 10th Avenue and said he was a pedophile, La Grange police said. The self-proclaimed pedophile drove away in a blue PT Cruiser. Brian A. Burke, 49, of the 5800 block of South Rutherford in Chicago, was arrested around 3:46 p.m. near the intersection of 47th Street and La Grange Road on a Justice warrant for driving with a suspended license, police said. A group of teenagers dragged a recycling bin down Waiola around 10:23 p.m., police said. When they let it go, it hit a car parked near the intersection of Goodman and Waiola, police said. Erik J. Thursday, May 9 Guillermo Cruz-Gomez, 23, of the 6500 block of South Kildare in Chicago, was arrested around 8:55 a.m. near the intersection of 47th Street and Gilbert, La Grange police said. He was charged with driving without a license. Police warned a man who urinated at the corner of La Grange Road and Elm around 1:14 p.m. A man was issued a no trespassing order for DiNico’s after a manager said he made inappropriate sexual gestures to female customers, police said. The man initially refused to leave before the manager called police. Officers found the man down the street at Fannie May. He denied doing anything at DiNico’s. Sunday, May 12 A woman reported two kids punching each other near the basketball courts at 701 S. 7th Ave. around 4:54 p.m., La Grange police said. The kids were gone when officers arrived. A woman caused a disturbance at Walgreens, 2 N. La Grange Road, around 1:58 p.m. after her insurance declined to cover a prescription she was picking up for her mother, police said. The woman called police because Walgreens wouldn’t give her the medication unless she paid for it out of pocket. The officer told her this was a matter between her, Walgreens and the insurance company. She became disruptive, called the officer a few names and stormed off, the report said. Monday, May 6 Jose Pena, 37, of the 3600 block of South 54th Court in Cicero, was arrested around 3:33 p.m. near the intersection of La Grange Road and Calendar Court, La Grange police said. He was charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license. Graffiti created with black paint was found around 9:35 a.m. on a building in the 0-99 block of South 6th Avenue, police said. She asked police for an extra watch on her home. Thursday, May 2 A woman reported a squirrel in her apartment in the 500 block of Banyon Lane around 3:32 p.m., police said. The officer was unable to locate the squirrel and told the woman to call her building’s maintenance person. Tasha M. La Grange Police Launch Summer Distracted Driving Crackdown

The department will have special patrols this summer devoted entirely to rooting out distracted drivers.

We’ve all been guilty of doing something in the car that takes our full attention from the road—whether it’s munching on a sandwich, putting on makeup or scrolling through an email. The La Grange Police Department is running a special campaign this summer to combat these behaviors that have become scarily common behind the wheel. A task force of officers in unmarked cars will specifically look for distracted drivers throughout the next several months, Police Chief Michael Holub said. The officers will work in pairs—a spotter and a driver—so they won’t be driving distracted themselves. Texting while driving is illegal throughout Illinois, while talking on a cell phone is against the law in school and highway construction zones. A bill …
