Wrestling New at Gurrie Middle School this Fall

Board discussed need for additional sports for girls, too.

Wrestling—the new after-school option for Gurrie Middle School—fits the District 105 board's goal to increase programs for students after the final bell rings. "Over the last couple of years, the board has been working to add other intramurals and after-school activities," said District 105 board president Mark Smith. Wrestling will join volleyball and cross country as non-cut sports to supplement the sports in which students compete to make the roster, such as basketball and softball, said Smith, who has a son going into 8th grade at Gurrie, and another son who graduated from Gurrie and now attends Lyons Township High School.
