Illinois Tollway Hiring 50 Seasonal Tollway Collectors

The seasonal position pays $10 an hour, and typically runs from May, 15, 2013, through Oct. 31, 2013. Candidates must apply by Dec. 19.

The Illinois Tollway is seeking qualified candidates for approximately 50 seasonal toll collector positions that will open next year. Illinois Tollway Streamlines Process to Contest Violations

Agency’s new online service helps customers contest violations for which they are not responsible, usually when a vehicle is stolen or sold, officials said.

Vehicle owners who seek to contest tollway violations and fines for which they believe they are not responsible will no longer have to call customer service or travel to the Illinois Tollway headquarters in Downers Grove, officials announced. The Illinois Tollway launched Monday a new online service for contesting violations for which drivers are not responsible, usually in situations where vehicles have been sold or stolen prior to the violation date. Now, customers can contest toll violations at illinoistollway.com, where they will download a form, attach the required documentation and return it to the Tollway for review. Tollway Traffic Expected to Increase for Memorial Day Weekend

Be sure to observe the 45-mph speed limit in all construction zones, even if workers are not present. Or you could be ticketed at least $375 for speeding in a work zone.

If your Memorial Day plans include a road trip via the tollway, you will have plenty of company. Illinois Tollway officials are expecting approximately 7 million vehicles will travel the Tollway system this Memorial Day holiday from Friday, May 25, through Tuesday, May 29. The heaviest travel is expected on Friday, May 25, when nearly 1.6 million vehicles are projected to be on the road. On an average day, about 1.4 million vehicles use the Tollway. Tollway officials, in a prepared news release, stress the need to drive safely in construction work zones throughout the system. Tollway Construction Resumes March 18

Closures are scheduled on I-294 and I-90; detours are in place.

Construction on the I-294/I-90 tri-level bridge project is scheduled to resume March 18. This year’s work will require the full closure through early July of the ramp bridge carrying northbound Tri-State Tollway (I-294) traffic to the westbound Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) and full closure of the eastbound I-190 ramp from O’Hare International Airport to westbound I-90. Electronic message signs and directional signs will be put in place to alert drivers to the closures and detour.   The tri-level bridge project will extend the life of the complicated interchange that connects I-294 to I-90 and provide safe and convenient travel for Tollway customers. New Toll Rates, New Projects for 2012

The Illinois Tollway announced $609 million in construction projects for 2012. They're being funded with a hefty increase in tolls for cars.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL—The Illinois Tollway will spend nearly $609 million in 2012 to repair and rebuild roadways, kicking off the agency's 15-year, $12 billion capital program. Toll increases to pay for the projects go into effect at midnight Jan. 1; tolls at most locations will go from 40 cents to 75 cents for cars with an I-Pass. According to a press release from the Tollway, the new 2012 projects will include: Tollway customers will see the first construction projects begin in early spring on the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) and Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88), with other projects starting at various times from spring through fall. Winners Announced in Illinois Tollway 2012 Map Cover Art Contest

More than 10,000 votes cast for student artwork determine the winners.

The Illinois Tollway today has announced that Lewis Cafaro, a senior at Lincoln-Way North High School in Frankfort, is the grand prize winner of the 2012 Illinois Tollway Map Cover Art Contest. The contest was sponsored by the Illinois Tollway, Blick Art Materials and U.S. Equities. "There were so many outstanding entries from other students. I was surprised that mine had been chosen as the overall winner," Cafaro said in a press release from the Tollway Authority. "I am very excited about the award and have really enjoyed being part of the contest." Just as the latest smartphone is replaced with better technology, so can a tollway’s electronic tolling system. Tollway 2012 Budget: Capital Improvements, Toll Rate Hike

Projects in the tentative balanced budget will kick off a 15-year, $12 billion capital plan. The 40-cent toll will go to 75 cents.

New Tollway Map Cover is Subject of Contest

Student artist with winning design will get $600 in gift certificates.

High school art students are being asked to apply their talents to the cover of the 2012 Illinois Tollway map. Students attending 314 public high schools in the 12 counties served by the Illinois Tollway are invited to participate. The Illinois Tollway, Blick Art Materials and U.S. Equities are sponsoring the contest. Traffic Alert: Repair Work to Begin on I-90

Road closures and work are scheduled at night, with traffic returning to normal at 5 a.m. each day until construction is completed.

Two road projects are scheduled to begin on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90). The exit ramp from the westbound Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) to southbound Barrington Road and the eastbound entrance ramp from southbound Barrington Road will close nightly for pavement rehabilitation work as part of the I-90 Roadway and Bridge Rehabilitation Project between the Elgin Toll Plaza and Barrington Road. The ramp closures are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Sunday, July 24, and continue nightly through Friday, July 29. Ramps will reopen to traffic by 5 a.m. each morning. No detour will be posted.
