The Lions scored the only points they would need early in the first quarter as quarterback Zachary Mahoney hit Jemari Burks with a touchdown pass to open the scoring. While the Trojans hung tough the first half, the Lions never looked back and came out with a convincing 31-0 win. The Salute to the Service game featured pre-game skydivers and a tribute to our veterans, many of whom came out on the field at half time. Lyons moves to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the West Suburban Silver Conference. The Lions are at home again next week for a 7:30 p.m. game Sept. 21 vs. rival Hinsdale Central. Reigning conference champs claim second consecutive divisional championship with win over Oak Park.
Two days after a comfortable 21 point victory over Downers Grove North, Lyons Township duplicated its dominance with a 71-52 win over Oak Park-River Forest on senior night. The result keeps Lyons’ (19-2, 10-0) flawless conference record in tact and clinches the West Suburban Silver Conference championship. “Conference is clinched and it feels great,” senior forward Nick Burt said. “But, we still have some goals left and would love to finish perfect in conference.” In locking up the conference officially, the Lions—ranked No. 13 by the Chicago Tribune—accomplish a large preseason goal, and they and additionally do so on an evening typically considered special for all senior players. “I think it’s all gone really fast, but it’s been a great …

The Lions move to 12-2 after overcoming prestigious Bulldogs program, 81-55.
One night after a comfortable victory over conference opponent Downers Grove North, Lyons Township replicated its success with another resounding win, this time over suburban power Waukegan, 81-55. The Lions move to 12-2 overall after dispatching the Bulldogs, and head Coach Tom Sloan wasn’t shy about expressing the team’s satisfaction. “It’s very exciting, I want the kids to be excited,” Sloan said. “Waukegan has been in the state final and semifinal the last two years and they’re very athletic. Lions grab third conference victory with ease.
The scene was heartbreaking for any blue and gold clad supporter. An ecstatic Downers Grove South contingent contrasted the deflated Lyons Township players. A 56-55 overtime win for the Mustangs on Dec. 30 saw the Lions fall seconds short of repeating as Jack Tosh Holiday Classic champions. Friday night, however, Lyons responded to the trying defeat with a thumping of conference opponent Downers Grove North at home, 65-31. “A key point we made before the game was that we needed to come out with defensive intensity and set the tone early,” Lyons head coach Tom Sloan said. “I felt the guys did that. Skilled squad pushes past their rival for the
second time this week, ready for next test.
The Lyons Township High School boys soccer team defeated Downers Grove North High School—currently ranked seventh nationally by ESPNrise.com—by a score of 1-0 in the quarterfinal round of the Pepsi Showdown on Sept. 16 at home, placing the Lions just one bracket rung away from the Showdown championship match, to be played at Toyota Park Sept. 25. Senior midfielder Kyle Kurfirst scored the only goal of the match on a header following a cross that was misplayed by the Downers Grove North goalkeeper. It was their second time defeating Downers Grove North this week: Lyons pulled off a tightly contested victory at home, handily overcoming the Downers side 2-0 in a West Suburban Conference away game on Sept. 14. North at home, improves to 3-0 record.
After a roller-coaster ride of a game, it was mission accomplished for the boys in blue as the Lyons Township High School varsity football team emerged victorious 35-28 over Downers Grove North High School. After handily defeating Addison Trail High School on the road one week ago, LT was looking to inspire the home crowd in their return to Bennet Field Friday night. Head coach Kurt Weinberg highlighted the importance of the team winning its opening conference game of the season. "Any win in the [West] Suburban Silver Conference is great," Weinberg said.
