A La Grange man is in good condition after he was seriously injured Saturday in a rollover crash that killed another passenger, a spokeswoman for Christ Advocate Medical Center in Oak Lawn said Tuesday. Michael Rende, 20, was airlifted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after the SUV he was in blew a tire and rolled over near Remington, IN. He and four friends were returning to the Chicago area from Indiana University. It is unclear how much longer Rende, a 2011 graduate of Lyons Township High School, will remain hospitalized, the spokeswoman said. John Malone Jr., 20, died Saturday, May 4, after a car he was in rolled over while he and four friends were driving home fro Indiana University. Friends from Deerfield, La Grange and Wilmette were also injured.
Services have been set for a River Forest college student who died in a car crash Saturday on his way home from college. John J. Malone Jr. died Saturday, May 4, 2013. He was 20. He was ejected from the back seat of a car after a tire blew out on Interstate 65 in Indiana. Malone was driving home with four friends from the University of Indiana. A La Grange man was taken to the hospital Saturday with life-threatening injuries following a rollover car accident while he and four friends were driving home from Indiana University, according to an Indiana State Police news release. A 20-year-old River Forest man died in the accident after the SUV he was in blew a tire and rolled over near Remington, IN. Michael Rende, 20, also of La Grange, was seated in the back seat behind the driver. Police said he was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected out of the car. The man died about an hour-and-a-half after the accident Tuesday at La Grange Memorial Hospital, the Doings reported.
A car struck a man riding a bicycle near the intersection of La Grange Road and 55th Street in Countryside around 6 p.m. Tuesday, the Doings reported. Gary J. Ziolko, 57, later died of his injuries at La Grange Memorial Hospital, the paper said. Police closed off 55th Street for several hours Tuesday night while they investigated the collision. The driver rear-ended a car that was waiting at the traffic light at the corner of 47th Street and Gilbert Avenue in Western Springs, police said.
A Brookfield woman who police said fled the scene of an accident Feb. 4 must answer to DUI charges after Western Springs officers caught up with her a mile-and-a-half from the crash. Stephanie S. Gose, 40, of the 3600 block of Grand Boulevard, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol at 5:35 p.m. after her car struck another vehicle waiting at the traffic light at the corner of 47th Street and Gilbert Avenue, police said. Gose's car rear-ended the other car, which was stopped at the traffic light facing eastbound on 47th Street, according to the report. A truck collided with a car just south of the railroad tracks around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
One person was hospitalized Tuesday afternoon after a semi truck hit a car head-on near the intersection of 47th Street and East Avenue in La Grange, police said. The truck was traveling northbound on East Avenue around 4:30 p.m. when it crossed the yellow lane line and struck the car just south of the railroad tracks, Sgt. Erik Berg said. The car’s driver was transported to Loyola University Hospital, but the extent of the injuries is not known. Both the passenger in the car and the driver of the truck were not hurt, Berg said. Police are still investigating the collision and have no other information at this time.

A 60-year-old La Grange man lost his life in a multi-vehicle crash on the I-90 on Tuesday morning.
A fatal accident on Interstate 90 Tuesday morning near Arlington Heights Road left one man dead, and at least three other people injured. The accident, which happened at 9:13 a.m. in the eastbound lanes, involved four cars and one box truck. The Chicago Tribune is reporting that the fatality was Michael Raymond, 60, of La Grange. Raymond was pronounced dead at Alexian Brothers Medical Center at 9:43 a.m., the paper reported. Emergency personnel from the Arlington Heights, Elk Grove, Elk Grove Township and Rolling Meadows fire departments were on the scene and transported the injured to Northwest Community Hospital and Alexian Brothers Medical Center.
