Burglary Foiled in La Grange Park, Two Arrested: Police

A 30-year-old homeless man and a 21-year-old Chicago man were arrested and charged with residential burglary in the northern part of the Village.

La Grange Park police report that they have arrested two man involved in a burglary on the 1400 block of Scotdale Road in La Grange Park on Thursday afternoon. Fernando Gonzales, 30, homeless, and Felipe Martinez, 21, of the 2600 block of S. Komensky Avenue, Chicago, were each charged with a Class 1 felony for residential burglary. Police had responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle around 1:00 p.m. According to La Grange Park police, the men were located sitting in a van on the 1600 block of La Grange Road with burglary tools and items from the burglarized house on Scotdale, where a rear door had been pried open. Western Springs Police Issue Burglary-Trend Alert

After four burglaries in one week, the Western Springs Police Department has warned residents to exercise caution and be sure to lock up.

The Village of Western Springs saw four burglaries in the past week (since Oct. 7), the Western Springs Police Department is reporting, prompting the Department to issue a community alert. Three of the burglaries were to vehicles and the fourth was to to a residential home. (The three most recent burglaries are enumerated in our most recent Western Springs police blotter; the fourth in the previous week's blotter.) All the burglaries took place in Forest Hills and Ridge Acres neighborhoods of Western Springs. All three car burglaries took place in the late night or early morning hours; the home burglary came between 10:20 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. In all cases, the target of the burglary was unlocked; the home was vacant. Updated: La Grange Police Charge 2 With Burglary

911 call on Tuesday results in police arresting two men on burglary charges.

UPDATE 1:30 p.m.: According to La Grange Police Chief Michael Holub, bond was set at $250,000 for Jack Smith Jr. and $350,000 for Michael A. Bass this morning. 9 a.m. La Grange police announced this morning that they have arrested and charged two men in connection with multiple burglaries in La Grange. Michael A. Bass, 50, of Calumet City and Jack Smith Jr., 46, of Romeoville, were each charged with residential burglary; possession of burglary tools; two counts of criminal trespass to a residence; and two counts of criminal damage to property. La Grange Police Apprehend 3 Following Interrupted Burglary

La Grange police arrested three suspects involved in a burglary on the 300 block of Catherine Avenue.

A resident who returned to her home on the 300 block of South Catherine Avenue on April 6 around 10 a.m. interrupted a burglary in progress, according to La Grange police. The resident came home to find a door open, a window broken and two individuals upstairs. Upon the resident's return, one suspect fled out the back door of the home and the other broke through a window on the home's second floor and jumped to the ground. La Grange police, with assistance from officers in Countryside and Brookfield set up a perimeter and subsequently arrested two individuals. Charged with residential burglary were Joshua Velez, 21, of 5017 Cermak Road in Cicero; Frank Ortiz, 18, of 5123 Cermak Road in Cicero; and Samantha Salinas, 21, of 6016 S. Kostner …

La Grange Police Make Arrest for Spring Avenue School Burglary

La Grange police have arrested Sandro Caban, 37, for one count of burglary.

The La Grange Police Department announced the arrest today of Sandro Caban, 37, of 1237 N. Lind in Berkeley, IL today for one count of burglary. Caban was arrested in connection to a burglary incident at Spring Avenue School in La Grange on Feb. 15. Police said Caban unlawfully entered the school and stole items from an employee’s purse.  Caban in will be transported to the Bridgeview Court House on Feb. 18 for his initial court date.  La Grange police issued a community safety alert after they received two calls about attempted burglaries on Spring Avenue. In the first, a resident called to say a man had attempted to enter their home through an open garage door around 7 a.m. on Feb. 15, only to run away and leave in a silver SUV after …

CHPD Arrests Man Suspected of Burglarizing More than 100 Vehicles

All the vehicles were unlocked, chief says, and along the BNSF railway; so far, police have identified victims in Clarendon Hills, Downers Grove, Westmont and Lombard.

Nicholas Robertson, 30, was arrested by Clarendon Hills Police Monday night and charged with felony burglary after admitting to police he has stolen items from about 100 unlocked vehicles in the Western Suburbs over the last month, Clarendon Hills Police Chief Ted Jenkins said. DuPage County State's Attorney spokesperson Paul Darrah said Robertson is currently charged with one count of burglary of a motor vehicle. Darrah said Robertson is charged with one count of felony drug possession, as well. Officers found the suspect to be in possession of heroin Monday, Jenkins said. Slain Lyons Township Freshman Connected with Everyone, Grieving Classmates Say

Friends who knew Kelli O'Laughlin since kindergarten will miss her.

About a dozen Lyons Township High School freshmen tied white ribbons around trees in front of the school in Western Springs Friday afternoon. "They're white, because white is pure, just like Kelli," said Abby, a friend of fellow freshman Kelli O'Laughlin, 14, who was murdered after getting home from school on Thursday. The group of students are remembering Kelli by putting together scrapbooks of their times together, and a memorial Facebook page has been created.  Most of the students had gone to school with Kelli since kindergarten and several were on the cross country team with her. Friday afternoon, they wore purple ribbons around their heads. "Purple was her favorite color," said Lindsey, another LT freshman, who said she used to call …

La Grange Police Chief Michael Holub wants to clear the air of some rumors in the community following the department's Code Red phone alert yesterday of a burglary in La Grange. The police department issued a Code Red alert yesterday after a burglary at a home on the 400 block of south La Grange Road. At about noon yesterday, three men described to be in their 40s and of mixed ethnicity, gained access to the La Grange home using deceptive means. Stolen were a currently unknown amount of cash and some personal items. The Code Red alert caused some concern in the community, and a few rumors as well, the police chief said. Burglaries May Be Connected in La Grange, La Grange Park, Western Springs

Suspects idientified in May 19, 20 incidents, some property recovered.

Two homes in La Grange Park were burglarized May 19; La Grange and Western Springs had similar incidents the morning of May 20, according to Ed Rompa, La Grange Park police commander.  “We believe they are related,” Rompa said in an email. Primary suspects are being identified or interviewed as part of the investigations and some items have been recovered, according to Rompa. In La Grange Park, homes were burglarized on the 600 block of north Catherine Avenue and on the 400 block of north Edgewood Avenue. Items taken included two laptop computers; cell phones; wallets of both home owners; and a brief case with miscellaneous paperwork in it.
