Blotter: Six Hit-and-Runs Reported Over 3 Days in La Grange

The following items are from Patch's reporting on the La Grange and La Grange Park police blotters.

Six hit-and-run accidents were reported May 29-31 to La Grange police. The accidents were reported May 29 both occurred on the 0-100 block of north La Grange Road; in a parking lot at Harris and Madison avenues; and in a lot on the 100 block of west Harris  Ave.    Hit-and-run accidents were also reported on May 30 on the 500 block of south Ashland Avenue and May 31 at Harris and Catherine avenues. ‘Speeder’ Ticketed A 20-year-old Cicero man was ticketed on May 29 after La Grange Park police said his green 1998 Pontiac Sunfire was going 45 mph in a 30-mph zone while southbound on the 1500 block of north Maple Avenue at about 6:08 a.m. Geovanni Adame-Luna was ticketed for speeding, no proof of insurance and no valid driver’s license. …

Hit-and-Run Crashes Reported A blue BMW parked on the 400 block of south Park Road was struck by another vehicle that fled, La Grange police learned May 27. A La Grange woman reported May 25 that her vehicle was hit on May 25 while it was parked in the village parking garage, 80 S. Sixth Ave.   Passenger Suffers Chest Pains After Accident A 73-year-old Mundelein woman who was experiencing chest pain was taken by ambulance to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital after the car she was riding in was struck by another vehicle at La Grange Road and Ogden Avenue at about 5:53 p.m. on May 25. Ring Missing Out of Home A ring worth $15,000 was reported on May 26 as missing out of a home on the 400 block of Edgewood Avenue. A member of the cleaning staff is suspected, according to La Grange Park police. Wallet Taken Out of Purse A wallet was reported on May 26 as having been taken out of a purse that had been hung on the back of a chair  at Panera, on the 400 block of La Grange Rd., between 12:30 and 1 p.m. while its owner ate. Inside the wallet were a driver’s license, miscellaneous credit cards, insurance cards and other miscellaneous identification and gift cards, according to La Grange Park police. Kid Complaints Five youths who were being loud in an alley behind the 300 block of Sixth Avenue at about 11:40 p.m. May 26 were warned by police and said they would leave. Three boys under age 17 were given tickets for violating a local ordinance after La Grange police responded to a complaint of a large crowd and music playing at about 9:24 p.m. May 26 on the top deck of the village parking garage, 80 S. Sixth Avenue. Boys ages 6 to 8 were running in front of cars on the 200 block of south Catherine Avenue at about 9:56 p.m. May 26. When a police officer warned them, they replied that someone in a light-colored sport-utility vehicle threw an egg at them and asked where Elm Park is. Blotter: Distracted Bicyclist, Driver in Separate Accidents

A 9-year-old La Grange girl told police she was looking at her cell phone just before her bicycle ran into the rear of a car at 50th Street and Ninth Avenue at about 5:26 p.m. May 14. The girl was riding east on 50th Street when the front tire of the bicycle hit the left rear quarter panel of a northbound 2002 Saturn driven by a 55-year-old La Grange man. That driver told La Grange police he thought the bicyclist was going at a high speed. No injuries nor citations were reported. A Western Springs woman told La Grange police she was reaching for something on the passenger seat when she lost control of her car, which hit a tree at 47th Street and Edgewood Avenue at about 6:39 p.m. May 12. Blotter: Man Uses Alias to Try to Get Prescriptions at La Grange, Hinsdale Hospitals

La Grange police picked up a 38-year-old man who allegedly was trying to get prescriptions in the emergency room of Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital, 5101 Willow Springs Road, by giving a false name at about 3:28 p.m. May 16. Police said he tried the same thing at Hinsdale Hospital. He was wanted on warrants from the Evergreen Park police for health care fraud and from the Logan County sheriff’s office for an undisclosed reason. Evergreen Park police were to pick him up.   Bicyclist ‘Runs Over’ Boy A La Grange mother reported at about 7:40 p.m. May 16 that a neighborhood boy had been picking on her son and just ran him over with his bicycle. Conversation Worrisome La Grange police were called at about 4:45 p.m. May 11 after someone reported hearing two men at Lincoln and Sawyer avenues talking about stabbing each other. One man was in a champagne-colored sport-utility vehicle and the other was wearing a red hat and black shirt and riding on a red bicycle. Police could not locate them. Blotter: Man Gets DUI After Crash

DUI Ticket After Crash A Brookfield man was ticketed for driving under the influence after La Grange Park police said his car was in a rear-end collision, injuring the other driver, on the 1100 block of north La Grange Road at about 9:39 p.m. on May 5. Wiley R. Stewart, 58, of 9200 block of Broadway Avenue, also was ticketed for failure to reduce his speed to avoid an accident. The other driver, a woman whose age and hometown were not released, complained of neck and back pain from the collision and was taken by ambulance to Loyola Hospital in Maywood. She told police that the other driver seemed disoriented and had glassy eyes. Stewart told police he had a few beers with his dinner and police said he had a strong odor of an alcoholic …

Blotter: Two Downtown La Grange Businesses Suspicious of Checks

Two downtown La Grange businesses reported to police on May 10 that a woman came in and wanted to purchase merchandise with a “starter” check that did not have preprinted personal information on it about the check writer. One business manager refused the check for $600. An owner of a second business took a check for $122.51, but that bank said there was no money in the checking account and to try again the next day to cash it. No information was available May 14 from La Grange police on whether the two incidents were connected and whether fraud was involved.   The manager of the first business told police a female came in at about 5 p.m. on May 8, took clothes off a rack without looking at them, brought them to the counter and tried to pay…

LT Finds 2 Students With Drugs, Paraphernalia

LT Officials Hold 2 on Drug-Related Charges La Grange police were called twice on the morning May 8 to Lyons Township High School North Campus, 100 S. Brainard Ave., on drug-related incidents involving students. In the first incident, at about 7:59 a.m., an 18-year-old La Grange boy found with marijuana was charged with possession of cannabis, less than 30 grams, and faces a June 25 court date.   Thirty minutes later, school officials had in custody a student for possession of drug paraphernalia—foil with a marijuana residue.
