The La Grange Area Department of Special Education works to empower youth with disabilities in 17 area school districts,More including La Grange School Districts 102 and 105 and Lyons Township High School District 204. The department's programs meet the needs of students with autism, physical, mental, sensory and hearing impairments, emotional disability and speech disorders. Preschool education for students with special needs is also provided.
Seguin Services - Betty Scheck Senior Center

The Betty Scheck Senior Center recently opened on May 10.  Its site is where Rascals restaurant once stood. More Richard N. Scheck (former mayor of North Riverside) donated the site as a lasting memorial to his late wife of 29 years.  Betty Scheck was devoted to helping seniors, caring for her husband's mother during the late stages of Alzheimer's Disease.  The center is operated by Seguin Services and caters to seniors with developmental disabilities.
Acacia Academy

Nestled in a quiet corner of La Grange Highlands is the private school of Acacia Academy. Phyllis Chaffer, its businessMore director, describes the academy as a private therapeutic day school for grades one through twelve. It offers special curricula for accelerated and gifted students, as well as the regular educational student and students who are learning-disabled. There school features a clinic for diagnostic testing, tutoring, a nature center. It boasts a student-to-teacher ratio of 1:10 with each classroom having at least one paraprofessional educator in addition to the teacher. The students are involved in field trips, career days, and more. Occupational and speech therapy are available as well as an on-site social worker and school psychologist.
Helping Hand Center

Helping Hand Center has been helping individuals with developmental disabilities since 1955. It is conveniently locatedMore across the street from a Pace 330 bus stop. The effort starts with medical services: speech therapy, physical therapy and occupational therapy. There is also a pre-school preparation program, as well as an autism school and clinic. For adults, there are social skills training,  counseling, behavioral therapies, employment counseling  and independent living skills. Additionally, there are classes on cooking and computers. The center has some sister organizations: athrift store in Brookfieldand SubCon Packing & Assembly in La Grange Park.
