The La Grange Fire Department is manned 24 hours a day by three shifts, with six professional firefighters in each…More shift. In addition, one firefighter maintains a daytime floating shift during peak periods and while other firefighters are out for injury or vacation.
Two shiny red engines, one ladder truck and two ambulances are parked in the West Burlington Avenue garage. The station is also equipped with a chief car, two command cars and a few staff vehicles.
In addition to responding to emergency calls, the La Grange Fire Department provides courtesy home inspections for residents who are concerned about fire safety. It also throws block parties and holds an annual open house, and the department partners with community organizations for special events and public education.
Chief David Fleege, the La Grange fire chief since 2004, says the mission of the department is to protect the life and property of citizens and visitors of the Village of La Grange from fire and medical emergencies. Chief Fleege came to La Grange after working as the Fire Chief of Wheaton, IL for 21 years.
