Run for Kelli O'Laughlin This Weekend

Second Annual Run for Kelli is Saturday, Nov. 16

The second Run for Kelli to benefit the Kelli Joy O'Laughlin Memorial Fund is set for Nov. 16 at Lyons Township High School's south campus. 

The run is held in memory of O’Laughlin, the 14-year-old Indian Head Park girl who was murdered in her home in October 2011. A release emailed to Patch by John O'Laughlin, Kelli's dad, said Kelli's family and friends encourage the community to come together to remember her, celebrate her life and raise money for her memorial fund, the mission of which is to give young people opportunities to develop their greatest potential of friendship, kindness, leadership skills and confidence, as well as their education through college scholarships and other charitable activities.

“Through the support of our family, friends and the community at large, and through events such as Run For Kelli, Kelli’s fund has awarded eight college scholarships valued at over $20,000 since it started less than two years ago," John O'Laughlin said. "As we mark two years since Kelli’s passing, we have been inspired by her everlasting effect she’s had on the community. We strive to keep her zest for life alive in our own pursuits to make our communities a better place, one neighbor and one block at a time."

The race will be held on the three-mile cross-country course at LT's south campus, which is located at 4900 Willow Springs Rd., Western Springs. Two race times are offered: 8 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. A one-mile walk will be also be held at 9:30 a.m., with a 50-yard dash for kids ages 10 and under.

Electronic timing services will be provided by Real Timing Inc. 

In addition to the race, walk and dash, there will be live entertainment, prizes, event T-shirts for all participants.

Participants can pick up a runner’s bag at The Runner’s Soul, 5 South La Grange Rd., La Grange, on Nov. 14 and Nov. 15, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Bag pick-up is also available on the morning of the race beginning at 7 a.m.

Registration fees are $25 for the run and $20 for the walk. All proceeds will go to the Kelli Joy O’Laughlin Memorial Fund.
