La Grange Garden Club Donates $5,000 to Helping Hand Center

The La Grange Garden Club announced that it has donated $5,000 to the , a local nonprofit that provides services to adults and children with developmental disabilities.

The donation from the garden club will be used to build and plant a sensory garden for use by staff and clients of the Helping Hand Center to learn about gardening. The plants and vegetables they grow will help clients use their five senses by touching, eating, smelling, hearing and watching their plants as they grow.

The new garden will also benefit adult clients who participate in a program called Environmental Group. For these clients, the garden will serve as vocational training—especially for those clients looking for employment at local garden centers. The Environmental Group works to raise awareness about our outside environment while teaching skills that can be used at home and in the community.
