Transformers 4 films at VMC McCook Quarry

McCook, Ill.—Vulcan Materials Company is once again a part of Chicago’s next big project. But this time the project isn’t a road, or a bridge, or building materials for a public works initiative, it’s a movie.

Transformers 4, the newest installment in the mega-grossing series filmed portions of the forthcoming sequel at Vulcan’s McCook Quarry recently.

Director Michael Bay and his crew traveled to the Chicagoland location to capture the shots they needed.

“Vulcan Materials Company has been a great partner throughout this entire process,” said Transformers 4 Supervising Location Manager JJ Hook, on behalf of Paramount Pictures, the studio behind the Transformers flicks.

“They've been extremely helpful in getting us everything we need for the shoot. The location is magnificent and the people here were great to work with, we’re very appreciative of the Vulcan team.”

“A project like this is a great opportunity to outreach with new community partners,” said area manager Kevin Cox of Vulcan Materials Company. “We’re proud of the work we do here and we’re excited to get the chance to share it with some folks from Hollywood!”

This is the second consecutive Transformers movie to shoot in Chicagoland after Transformers 3 filmed many of its scenes up and down Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago in 2010.

In fact, the entire state of Illinois has become a hotbed of Hollywood activity in recent years.

Earlier this year, Gov. Quinn announced that 2012 was the highest grossing year for film production revenue after the state raked in more than $184 million. Thanks to projects like Transformers 4, films have become an economic engine for Chicagoland and Illinois at large.

“We’re extremely pleased to bring some business into our community,” said David Clement, Vice President at Vulcan. “These partnerships are valuable to us because of the positive impact they have on our friends and neighbors nearby.”
