A properly fitted, high quality shoe, whether athletic or for casual use, is important preventative care for your child. Our favorite foot doctors at the Prairie Path Foot & Ankle Clinic   in Elmhurst are hosting a Free Back to School Shoe Fitting today (Tuesday) between 2 and 4pm. Certified Pedorthist Ryann Jackson will be on hand to measure your child’s foot and make appropriate recommendations, based on your child’s foot structure.

What is a pedorthist, you may ask? A pedorthist is a professional who is trained in the assessment of lower limb anatomy and biomechanics, and the appropriate use of corrective footwear – including shoes, shoe modifications, foot orthoses and other pedorthic devices.  Children’s feet grow so fast, and it’s important not to restrict their growth with shoes that are tight fitting. Many future foot issues, such as bunions, heel spurs, calluses, and ingrown toenails can be caused by an improperly fitted shoe.

“An ill-fitting shoe can lead to complications as simple as black or thick toenails, or as serious as bone deformities that may lead to surgery in the future,” advises Dr. Misty McNeill of the Prairie Path Foot & Ankle Clinic.

Our well trained, friendly staff will also perform a free biomechanical and gait evaluation for every one of our customers. By doing a gait analysis, evaluating your foot strike, considering your preferred sports and other active pursuits, and more, we can provide recommendations on which shoes will work best for you.

Cross country athletes, mark your calendars for our Spike Weeks, beginning August 19 and running through August 31st. We’ll have special pricing for your cross country needs, such as a Spike and Trainer Combo Pack, as well as discounts on spikes or trainers only. Choose from our great selection of spikes from Brooks, Nike, New Balance, and Saucony. Representatives from some of those brands  will be on hand to answer questions and help fit you, according to the schedule below; and you’ll get a gift with your spike purchase!
