LT’s Labbato achieves school record 130 wins with boys’ soccer program

As Lyons Township High School celebrates its 125th year of existence, another milestone was reached last evening when the varsity boys’ soccer team defeated the Argonauts of Argo High School by a score of 4-0 in their final regular season match at the North Campus West Field. The victory improved the varsity record to 14-2-3, but more significantly marked head coach Paul Labbato’s 130th career win, making him the most successful varsity boys’ soccer coach in the 47-year history of the program.

Labbato, the eighth head coach in the program’s history and in only his seventh season, has compiled an impressive record of 130 wins 25 losses and 12 ties for a winning percentage of 78%.  The LT soccer program has been nationally ranked at times during his tenure, Pepsi Showdown Champions in 2012, West Suburban Silver Champions in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011, and the IHSA State Champions in 2009.  Last night’s achievement is equally impressive considering the former record, held by Greg Beste (129 wins 72 losses 28 ties for a 56% winning percentage) was compiled over an 11-year span from 1979 to 1990.  Congratulations to Coach Labbato and good luck to the team as it heads into the post season tournament.
