LT’s Ebner named VFW Teacher of the Year

Lyons Township High School Family and Consumer Sciences teacher Kate Ebner was presented with a Teacher of the Year award by the Western Springs VFW Post 10778. Americanism Committee Chairman Bruce Harkin (far right) said, “The post thanks you for your outstanding service in the education of our youth.” Post member Peter Zika (far left) echoed congratulations.  LTHS Superintendent Dr. Timothy Kilrea noted that Ebner is certified in multiple areas, which gives her more opportunity to connect with all students. “She’s creative, enthusiastic and is an exceptional teacher.” Ebner has a bachelor's degree from Olivet University and a master's degree from St. Xavier. She began teaching at LT in 2005 and teaches Chefs, International Foods and Driver Education classes. She has been instrumental in showcasing the business side of the culinary arts with her Gourmet to Go program, where students make and package affordable take-out dinners for faculty and staff once a month.
