Local Business Association to Award College Scholarship This Year

The La Grange Business Association announces that it will award a $1000 college scholarship to a deserving senior from Lyons Township High School, according to Steve Jasinski, LGBA board president.

Called the LGBA Keeping it Local Scholarship, this new award has been established to acknowledge hard-working high school students who have supported local businesses through their responsibilities as part time employees.

“The LGBA’s goal is to emphasize how important it is to support local businesses, but also to showcase how our local businesses give back to the community, as well.  This scholarship is a perfect example of that mission,” said Jasinski.

Applicants must be an LTHS graduating senior, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and be currently working or have worked for a La Grange Business Association member business, according to Ryan Williamson, the chairperson of the scholarship committee.

Applicants are also required to submit a letter to the selection committee that contains: the student’s name, address and student I.D. number, the college the student plans to attend, future educational plans and goals, a testimonial letter written by the business owner, an essay detailing what it means/meant to them to work in their own community plus an unofficial school transcript.

“The LGBA realizes how the cost of a college education continues to increase,” Williamson said. “We see this as a way to help reduce the burden, if even just a little bit, on a student who has worked hard within our local business community.”

All materials can be sent to the La Grange Business Association at 106 Calendar Avenue, Box LGBA, La Grange IL 60525 and must be postmarked by March 21.

A fundraiser will be held on Thursday, April 3 at Corner Bakery Café at 39 N. La Grange Road where 15% of the event proceeds that day will benefit the LGBA’s ongoing scholarship fund.
