Fourteen Lyons Township High School students took an icy plunge and raised nearly $4,800 to benefit Special Olympics of Illinois, which supports the more than 21,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities and more than 11,000 young athletes ages 2-7. This past Saturday in Evanston, Special Education paraeducator Mark Yena, Special Education teachers Brian Wolf and Jackie Gay, aviation teacher Dave Root and 14 students from the Best Buddies Club and Aviation Club took the 2013 Polar Plunge in Lake Michigan. Donations help provide athletes with intellectual disabilities the chance to participate in year-round sports training and competition. LTHS was also awarded the “Cool School Challenge Golden Bear Award” for being the high school with the most funds raised.
