Eighteen Lyons Township High School students were recently named All-State Musicians. Three students, seniors Matt Bandyk, Molly Smith and David Gosz, are repeat honorees, having been named among the All-State ranks last year. Also, four LT choir All-State singers earned spots on the coveted All State Honors Choir.
All-State musicians are chosen by the Illinois Music Educators Association based upon preliminary auditions held in October. Each year, students from approximately 575 high schools in Illinois audition and approximately 1200 students statewide are named All-State musicians.
These 18 students will perform at the Illinois Music Education Conference held at the Peoria Civic Center January 23-26 along with other top musicians chosen from across the state.
“Congratulations to those selected, their teachers, and those who auditioned. Being selected for All-State is a tremendous honor for our students and a reflection of our staff. The All-State weekend in Peoria is a learning experience for these students that unite them with fellow musicians and directors from across the state,” said Fine Arts Division Chair Nick Gehl.NAME YEAR IN SCHOOL GROUP HOMETOWN BAND Matt Bandyk Senior Trombone LaGrange Park William Gallucci Junior French Horn LaGrange Park Jane Doyle Junior Double Bass LaGrange Dakota Smith Senior Percussion Countryside ORCHESTRA Mitch Galgan Sophomore Double Bass LaGrange Park Christian Naval Sophomore Cello LaGrange Park Adrian Petterson Junior Violin 2 LaGrange Claire Roesler Sophomore Violin 2 Western Springs Molly Smith Senior Viola LaGrange Park CHORUS Alejandro Chavez Senior Tenor I LaGrange Emily Chlapik* Senior Soprano II LaGrange Park Brett Edwards Senior Bass I Western Springs David Gosz* Senior Tenor I Western Springs Taryn MacLean Senior Alto II LaGrange Mary Kate Maney* Senior Alto I Western Springs Lisa McGovern Senior Alto I Western Springs Naomi O'Reilly* Senior Alto I LaGrange Aidan Teppema Junior Soprano II LaGrange Park *Honors
