If you’re anything like me, picking out the right wine to accompany your evening seems like an overwhelming task.

Luckily we’ve got our own experts right here in La Grange at Vino e Birra. (And, as their name suggests they can also help you select a great beer.)

I checked in with Ryan Dewitt at Vino e Birra to get his suggestions for the perfect wines for a summer evening. One general tip: Cool, crisp white wines work well for almost any warm weather entertaining.

Here are Ryan’s picks:

  • 90+ Cellars Prosecco, champagne’s Italian cousin, is a good, dry sparkling wine. It pairs great with appetizers as well as dessert—especially gelato.
  • Ten Sisters Sauvignon Blanc is one of Vino e Birra’s bestsellers. It’s a well-balanced white that’s neither too dry nor too sweet, with a little bit of tartness. “It’s one of our nice, refreshing wines,” Dewitt said.
  • Cascinetta Vietti Moscato d’Astir is a good choice if you have a penchant for sweets. Moscato has taken the place of Riesling as the wine of choice for people who prefer a milder flavor, Dewitt said.

And if you love your reds . . .

  • Rickshaw Pinot Noir is a lighter red, great for drinking on the patio with a grilled steak. “It’s the owner’s personal favorite,” Dewitt said.
