SPIRITO! SINGERS ANNOUCES 2012-2013 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

The Spirito! Singers are pleased to formally announce the winners of our two senior scholarships which are awarded each year.

The Dolores Stedman Shaheen Scholarship for Choral Excellence

Purpose/Mission:

The Dolores Stedman Shaheen Scholarship for Choral Excellence has been established to provide college tuition support to a senior member of Spirito! Singers’ Bravura Ensemble who has displayed outstanding vocal achievement and dedication to the art of choral singing.  The recipient may be pursuing any college major. The selection process included an application form, essay responses, and a live audition before a review panel of judges. The recipient is awarded a scholarship in the amount of $2,000.  This scholarship is awarded once each year to a Bravura senior.

Eligibility

• Applicants must be a current Bravura ensemble member in her senior year of high school.
• Applicant must be enrolled in her high school choral music program.

The Panel ended up with a tie.  Therefore, our scholarship is being divided equally between two winners:

Brianna Murray

Oberlin College and Conservatory

Major:  Vocal Performance and Political Science

and

Gretchen Hedrick

Millikin University

Major:  Music Education, Vocal

Spirito! Commitment to Service Scholarship

Purpose/Mission

The Spirito! Commitment to Service Scholarship has been established to provide college tuition support to a senior member of Spirito! Singers’ Bravura Ensemble who has displayed outstanding commitment to community service. The recipient may be pursuing any college major. The selection process will include an application form, essay responses, and an interview before a review panel of judges. The recipient will be awarded a scholarship in the amount of $2,000.  This scholarship is awarded once each year to a Bravura senior.

Eligibility

• Applicant must be a current member of the Bravura ensemble in her senior year of high school.
• A minimum of 50 hours of community service performed from the summer prior to junior year to the present is required.
