Nazareth Baseball No-Hit in Supersectional Loss to Grayslake Central

Nazareth baseball's run in the state playoffs ended Monday when the Roadrunners couldn't get a hit against Grayslake Central, losing 4-0 in the supersectional game. 

Grayslake's Kevin Peloza threw the stellar complete game no-hitter against Nazareth in the round of eight in the Class 3A playoffs. 

Previously, Nazareth won 7-3 over Clemente in the sectional championship. Winning Nazareth pitcher Peter Minella threw 6 innings behind a complete team effort, as every Nazareth starter reached base in the game.

Badminton

• Lyons Township: Placed 6th in state after winning the Reavis sectional. Stephanie Lin won the state championship in the singles bracket. Elizabeth Abbs lost in the first round of state bracket. Doubles qualifiers Jamie Duncan and Emma Thimmig lost in the first round of the state bracket.

Baseball

• Lyons Township: Season over. Last game: Lost 5-3 vs. Mount Carmel in the 4A sectional semifinals.
• Nazareth: Last game: Won 6-3 vs. Riverside-Brookfield in the 3A sectional semifinals. Junior Jake Bartels pitched 4 innings and hit a 3 run double in the 6th inning to put the Roadrunners ahead for good. Junior Peter Minella pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief for the win. Next game is 10 a.m. June 1 vs. the Clemente/Glenbard South winner.

Gymnastics (Boys)

• Lyons Township: Placed 5th in state. Chris Rediehs (floor exercise, pommel horse, parallel bars, high bar) placed 10th in state finals for still rings, 3rd in state finals for horizontal bars and 6th in the state finals for parallel bars; Noah Mennemeier (pommel horse) placed 11th in state finals; Xavier Barry (pommel horse) placed 28th in state prelims; Will Galucci (still rings) placed 7th in state finals. Lacrosse (Boys)

• Lyons Township: Season over. Last game: Lost 15-6 vs. No. 3 Glenbrook North in the second round of the playoffs. Previously Won 12-6 vs. St. Charles East in the first round.
• Nazareth: Season over. Last game: Lost 7-6 to Homewood-Flossmoor in the first round.

Soccer (Girls)

• Lyons Township: Season over. Last game: Lost 3-1 vs. Hinsdale Central in the Class 3A sectional championship. Read more here.

Softball

• Lyons Township: Season over. Last game Lost 5-3 in 9 innings vs. Hinsdale South in the 4A regional semifinals.
• Nazareth: Season over. Last game: Lost 6-0 vs. Lemont in the 3A sectional semifinals.

Tennis (Boys)

• Lyons Township: Tied for 11th in state. Placed 2nd in the Hinsdale Central sectional. Jake Elliot lost in the fourth round of the singles bracket. Cuyler Burke lost in the first round of the singles bracket. Jack Wennerstrum/Chris O'Reilly lost in the third round of the doubles bracket.
• Nazareth: Placed 4th in the Hinsdale Central sectional. No state qualifiers.

Track & Field (Boys)

• Lyons Township: Placed 9th in state. State finalists include Matthew Harris (4th in long jump, 5th in 110m high hurdles); Jimmy Mitchell (5th in shot put); 6th in team 4x800-meter relay; Michael Matusiak (20th in 3200m run); Lino Mogorovic (7th, 300m intermediate hurdles); and 9th in 4x400m relay run. • Nazareth: Competed in the Fenwick 2A sectional May 16. State qualifier: Zachery Manuel (long jump, 100m dash).
