LT Girls Gymnasts Win Sectional Title

Four Lions girls automatically qualified on Wednesday for this week's state meet as the team did collectively as well.

Led by individual-qualifying efforts from Kelsy Kurfirst, Michelle Cozza, Maren Craig and Katie Carling, the Lyons Township High School girls gymnastics team secured the sectional championship and a spot in this weekend's state meet in Palatine, the Suburban Life reports.

According to the paper, Kurfirst took some risks to emerge with the highest all-around score (38.35) as LT cruised over second-place Hinsdale Central, 149.25 to 140.90.

"Every single girl was just amazing tonight,” Lions coach Kari Karubas told the paper on Wedneday. “I know exactly what needs to happen (at state). I’m not one of those coaches that backs off. We don’t taper. We have a lot of work to do.”
