Community Park District Celebrates 21st Annual Run for the Roses

The race is on as the Community Park District of La Grange Park prepares for its 21st Annual Run for the Roses 5K race. On Saturday, May 19th, runners and walkers will line up outside of Forest Road School and participate in this 3.1 mile trek around the neighborhoods of La Grange Park. Pre-registration is required for participants to be eligible for prizes and official time recordings. At the conclusion of the race, the Kid Fun Run will be held. All proceeds from this event benefit the Community Park District’s Scholarship Fund.

Registration forms can be found at the Recreation Center, 1501 Barnsdale Rd., and on the Community Park District’s website, www.cpdlgp.org. Registration prior to Thursday, May 17th, costs are $16 for Runners, $12 for Walkers. On or after Thursday, May 17th, cost is $20 for Runners, $16 for Walkers. Official race T-shirts will be provided to the first 450 registered participants. Packet pick-up for those registered prior to Thursday, May 17th will be held on Friday, May 18th at the Recreation Center from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm. Registration for the Kids Fun Run is free, but all participants do need to be signed up.

The race begins and ends on the 900 block of Forest Road on the east side of the school. Registration tables will be available from 6:30 to 7:35 am on race day for those wishing to participate. Those who have pre-registered will also be able to pick up packets at the registration tables if they have not already done so. Warm-ups with a fitness instructor will begin at approximately 7:40 am. The race begins at 8:00 am.

During the event, there will be entertainment by a clown, a DJ and a moon jump house for all to enjoy. Refreshments and healthy snacks will be provided to those in attendance before, during and after the race. Prizes will be randomly drawn at the conclusion of the race for those who have signed up and participated. Awards will also be handed out at the conclusion once official results have been calculated to first and second place finishers in each age category for both runners and walkers.
