Two artists win national medals

Two LT student-artists earned silver medals in the 2014 National Scholastic Art Awards. Senior Chloe Tausk, of Western Springs, earned a silver medal for an Art Portfolio, and senior Elizabeth Abbs, of LaGrange, earned a silver medal for a Mixed Media piece.

Abbs winning piece is entitled My Grandma’s House and Tausk’s portfolio included eight pieces in the following categories: four mixed media, one sculpture, one printmaking and two photographs. LT’s winning entries were among just 18 in the region and 36 in the state to be awarded medals at the national competition.

In total, LT sent two Art Portfolios and 13 Gold Key pieces to the national competition in New York, where they joined selections from across the country. Judges critiqued and chose just 700 winning pieces based on thought, technique, execution and overall impact.
