Students Can Still Register for a Free Cardiac Screening at LTHS

Students at Lyons Township High School can still sign up for a free cardiac screening that will take place Nov. 17 at South Campus and Nov. 18 at North Campus.

Lyons Township High School is still offering all students an opportunity to get a free electrocardiogram (ECG) heart screening on Nov. 17 at South Campus and on Nov. 18 at North Campus. The screening is a part of the Midwest Heart Foundation's Young Hearts for Life program that tests teens to see if they are at risk of sudden cardiac death.

The screening only takes about three minutes to complete. Volunteers will attach electrodes to a student's chest and limbs and the ECG will monitor the student's heart rate and rhythm. A printou of the results will then be reviewed by a cardiologist. Students will miss only gym or study halls to go for their test, and privacy will be ensured using pipe and drape booths.

Parents must register their children at the Midwest Heart Foundation's website in order to take part in the test. Parents will receive an email notification approximately three to four weeks after the test and will be able to view the results in the account they create. Any issues identified by the testing will need to be addressed by the family's physician.
