No School Tuesday for LT Students

The extreme cold means an extra day of winter break for local high schoolers.

Winter break continues for Lyons Township High School students.

The school announced in a release Monday afternoon that school will not be in session Tuesday due to the extreme cold.

"The combination of bitterly cold temperatures, no assurances that buses will function properly, and in an effort to keep students and staff safe, all after school activities are also cancelled and will be re-scheduled; this includes all athletic practices and club meetings," an email from Superintendent Tim Kilrea reads.

Kilrea's email also states that, according to Illinois school code, the missed day must be made up. A plan on how District 204 will do that will be communicated in the coming weeks.

Monday was supposed to be a teacher institute day and the last day of winter break for LT students. Instead, the institute day was canceled, as were all after-school activities.

School is expected to resume Wednesday, which is a late start day. Classes will begin at 8:45 a.m.
