LT Hopes to Name New Principal Next Month

Lyons Township High School board members could name a new principal at the Dec. 16 board meeting to replace David Franson, who is leaving in 2014 after 10 years in the position.

The Lyons Township High School District 204 board could name their pick for the new principal as early as next month, District 204 Spokesperson Jennifer Bialobok said Wednesday.

After 10 years as principal, David Franson announced in September that he'll step down as principal next year. He told the Doings in September he plans to travel, take classes and volunteer after he leaves LT.

To form a "leadership profile," describing what stakeholders would want to see in a new principal, district advisory committee members met with staff, parents and students, Bialobok said.

"We’re confident we have a really good feel for what it is that we’re looking for," said Bialobok. The district stopped accepting applications for Franson's replacement on Oct. 31.

Personal attributes listed in the profile include "innovative, creative and collaborative," "sense of humor" and "strong work ethic."

Stakeholders also said they want a principal who creates and promotes a student-centered school and is visible, and available to the students.

"We do hope to name that principal at the December board meeting," she said, noting the timing could change.

The new principal would start his or her 12-month position July 1, 2014. The board's next regular board meeting is Monday, Dec. 16.
