LT's Arsenault recognized for accomplishments inside and outside classroom

Lyons Township High School senior Sydney Arsenault, of LaGrange Highlands, was one of just 11 high school students named a School Citizen of the Year (SCOTY) award winner by the West 40 Intermediate Service Center.

All students in grades two through twelve in western Cook County's 38 school districts were eligible to participate in the 18th annual SCOTY Awards. This year, in total nearly 80 students were recognized for their positive accomplishments.

Selected students must be good school citizens and models for others to emulate. Grades and activities are important, but constitute a small part of the selection process.

According to his nomination, Sydney established herself as a charismatic, shrewd and compassionate leader on her first day at LTHS. Not only did she catch the attention of her teachers and club sponsors, but she also distinguished herself among her classmates, as evidenced by her selection as this year’s Student Council president.

Director of Student Activities Peter Geddeis says, “It’s been a real privilege working with Syd these last four years and watching her mature into a confident, charismatic leader.”

West 40 is an educational service center assisting school districts in western Cook County. West 40 provides a variety of support, information, and school improvement services to the 500 administrators, 7,000 teachers, and 83,000 students it supports.
