Schools

LTHS Registration Begins Thursday

The processing procedure at both campuses is pretty painless. Here are some helpful hints to make the experience go as smoothly as possible.

For some parents it’s the most wonderful time of the year, while others are sad to see the end of summer and the start of school. Whichever one you are, the reality is Lyons Township High School starts school on Aug. 22 with a half-day schedule.

The first time I registered my son I really didn’t know what to expect since we were new to the school and hadn’t lived in town very long. I have to admit, it was pretty painless and I was impressed with how they got everyone through the process as quickly as possible.

If you’ve never gone through the process, here’s what to expect with some helpful hints. All forms that are available for printing prior to registration you can click on to access.

Here is the processing checklist for freshman. Keep in mind the order could change a little depending on space. The sophomore, junior, and senior checklist is similar with some minor differences depending upon the grade. Sophomores have an additional stop if they are taking Driver’s ED and seniors will be measured for graduation caps and gowns that require a separate check for $15 made out to Jostens.

  1. At south campus you enter through the main door. The first thing you will do is turn in your Verification of Residency for 2011-2012 form that must be completed before you can proceed.
  2. Schedule pick-up.
  3. Meet with counselor, only if there are problems with the student’s schedule.
  4. Turn in the Information Form, Network Access Agreement, Tylenol Form.
  5. Yearbook picture and ID pick-up. Important: If you are ordering pictures you must pay at the time of the picture. Cash and checks made out to HR Imaging Partners will be accepted. You can also pre-pay online.
  6. Handbook/Calculator—Calculators required for certain classes can be purchased for $100, which is a lower price than offered in the past.
  7. Boosters—Here you can sign up for a Boosters membership; one-year membership is $10 and a lifetime membership is $30.
  8. Parent Teacher Council (PTC)—Dues (includes one calendar and one directory) $20; an extra calendar is $5 and an extra directory is $10.
  9. Publications/Corral—Publications $38 and Corral $15.
  10. Transportation/Magnets—Bus numbers are given along with magnets with important numbers.
  11. PE Locks—Locks are available for purchase for PE lockers for $5.50.
  12. PE Uniforms—Purchase PE shirts for $3.25 each and PE shorts for $7.75 each, both come in sizes small to 2XL. Heart monitor straps are available for $5. Every student participating in PE is required to have one.
  13. Lunch Pre-Payment—Here you can put money on your students ID for lunch or sign-up for on-line payments. Important: This must be paid for separately at the time you are there.
  14. Pick up books—Here make sure you have you schedule available to hand to the various departments and they will give you the books that are required for the class. You will have to follow along and stop at the departments (such as math, English, etc.) that your student has a class in.
  15. Payment—Here’s the fun stop where you get to pay for everything except for photos and lunch pre-payment. Yes, everything else is added up and you can pay by cash, check, MasterCard, Visa or Discover.
  16. Pick up calculator, calendar, directory and Corral passes with your paid receipt.
  17. Freshman T-shirts/Freshman Experience Day Room Assignments and hand in completed checklist here.

It seems like a lot, but once you are in line it moves along quickly and there is always someone there to help out. If you are unable to register with your student, please remember to send multiple checks if they are purchasing photos, pre-paying for the cafeteria or are a senior that will need to pay for their cap and gown.

If you are interested in financial aid information (fee waiver), please contact the assistant principal’s office at either campus.

The processing schedule can be found here. It is important that you adhere to the time assigned to your student to keep the lines to a minimum. With all the fall sports try-outs starting this week there are bound to be some students who cannot attend at their assigned time. It’s requested that students come as close to their time as possible.
