Congratulations are in order for eight members of the Lyons Township High School Business Professionals of America (BPA). LT students recently competed in the annual National BPA Leadership Conference contests and performed in a variety of categories, including Administrative Support Team, Advanced Word Processing, Banking and Finance, Database Applications, Fundamental Word Processing, Computer Network Tech and Database Applications. The BPA national competitions were held in Indianapolis.

Four BPA members are repeat competitors having participated in contests last year at nationals in Orlando. The Administrative Support Team of Dani Gresge, Ami Launspach and Kaye Stoettner, improved their ranking from 12th place last year to 2nd place this year with the help of new teammate Sheila Dunne. Ben Miller tried his hand in a different contest this year in Computer Network Tech.

In the words of their faculty sponsors, “It takes a lot of hard work to advance to nationals and we are very proud of their showing.” The students are led and coached by Global Studies teachers Julie Bryar-Smith and Krista Wilcox.

Business Professionals of America is a national organization for high school and college students preparing for careers in business and office administration. The organization’s activities and program complement classroom instruction by giving students practical experience through application of skills learned at school. BPA contributes to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic and technological skills.
