LT to Host 21-School Model UN Conference

Roughly 500 students from 21 area schools will participate in the one-day event at LT on Saturday, Dec. 7.

Lyons Township High School on Saturday, Dec. 7, will host the fourth annual St. Ignatius-Lyons Township Model United Nations Conference (SILTMUN) on the anniversary of Pearl Harbor, where roughly 500 students from 21 area high schools will participate.

Students will serve on 13 committees and discuss and debate topics ranging from drug trafficking, international trade and climate change to illegal immigrants. Students will also debate on how to deal with the issues surrounding global policy and the pacific arena as well as the response to the attack on Pearl Harbor to commemorate the anniversary. 

Participating schools include Stevenson, Leyden, Francis W Parker, Maine South, Marion Catholic, Nazareth Academy, Saint Patrick, Whitney Young, William Fremd, York and of course LTHS and St. Ignatius. 

The opening ceremonies begin at 8 a.m. in the Reber Center, with committee sessions running for the remainder of the day. More than 30 LT delegates and as many LT staff members will also participate.
