LT student wins statewide poster contest

Lyons Township High School junior Vladan Malinovic, of LaGrange Park, won 1st place in the eighth annual Metra Safety Poster Contest. His poster was selected from more than 2,200 entries and winning designs will be distributed to more than 2,000 schools in northeastern Illinois, featured in Metra's Safety Calendar, on the contest website, in station displays and on monthly tickets. Malinovic will receive an iPad and will be honored at the August Metra Board meeting. Fellow junior Austin Rice, of LaGrange Park, also participated in the contest and was named a finalist. Paraprofessional Jamie Ormond said, “The students both put a tremendous amount of work into these art pieces.”

This year's theme was "Get Smart: Look, Listen and Live." The Safety Contest is a key part of Metra's ongoing effort to increase public awareness of lifesaving railroad safety practices.
