Get Ready for Homecoming Week

Activities are planned every day next week at LTHS to celebrate homecoming spirit week. Check out the fun.

Homecoming is always a lot of fun and a big deal for high schools. Starting Monday, Sept. 26 homecoming activities are planned through Saturday, Oct. 1 at . The theme this year is “Welcome to the Jungle.” There’s a variety of activities. Take a look at the schedule and see if there’s one that’s a don’t miss for you.

Variety Show: Sept. 26 and Sept. 27

The variety show will be performed by students and staff who auditioned for the opportunity to get up on stage and do their thing. It includes both serious and funny performances. The doors open for seating at 6:30 p.m. both nights; the curtain goes up at 7 p.m. at the Reber Center. Tickets are $5 each and are sold during lunch hours the week before the event. Tickets may also be for sale the night of the event, depending on availability. The box office will open one hour before the event.

Pep Rally: Sept. 30

Starting at 6 p.m. the pep rally kicks off at Bennett Field at South Campus. This is a great way to come out and show support for our Lions. The athletic teams will be on hand and the dance groups will perform. There will be some special guests and some surprises, too.

Soccer Game: Sept. 30

Immediately following the pep rally at 7:30 p.m., the varsity boys soccer team will play the Reavis Rams under the lights. This is one of the few times they play at Bennett Field. At halftime the seniors will be honored along with their parents. Come on out and cheer our boys on.

Parade: Oct. 1

Bring the kids out for a parade. The parade will kick off at 10 a.m. from the North Campus parking lot. It will make its way south on Blackstone Avenue, head west on Goodman Avenue, and then turn south on Clausen Avenue. At 47th Street, the parade will proceed through the Garden Market and finish up in front of South Campus on Circle Drive.

Alumni Tours: Oct. 1

Tours will be offered to alumni at 11 a.m. at South Campus only. There are no tours of North Campus this year due to SAT testing. The tours begin at the Times Square entrance of South Campus. An alumni reception will be held at the Corral after the tours at noon.

Football Games: Oct. 1

What’s homecoming without football games? This year the Lions are playing the Oak Park-River Forest Huskies starting at 9 a.m. with the freshman A & B teams. The sophomores are up next at 11:15 a.m. followed by the big varsity game with kickoff at 1:30 p.m. The boosters will be on hand with a BBQ and will sell booster wear, also.

Homecoming Dance: Oct. 1

The South Campus Field House will be transformed into a jungle for the big dance that takes place from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Tickets for LT students are $15 per person when purchased in advance. Non-LT guest tickets cost $25 LT students may purchase tickets at the door on the night of the dance for $25. Tickets will be sold in the bookstore, beginning Sept. 21. The ticket includes entrance into the dance, refreshments, and entertainment. This is the largest social event of the year. Last year, more than 3,100 students attended the dance.

Spirit Days: Sept. 26-30

During homecoming week students and staff are encouraged to dress for the various days. If you happen to see a bunch of teens dressed in pajamas on Monday, you’ll know why. Here are the themes for the other days:

  • Sept. 26: Pajama Day Monday
  • Sept. 27: Sports Team Tuesday
  • Sept. 28: Animal Print Wednesday
  • Sept. 29: Tie-Dye Thursday
  • Sept. 30: King of the Jungle Friday (wear blue and gold!)
