District 102 to Discuss $1M in Recommended Budget Cuts
Eight full-time staff positions could be eliminated under the proposal, up for board discussion Thursday night.
Five special education teachers and three classroom staff positions will be on the line when the La Grange District 102 School Board discusses $1 million in proposed budget cuts during Thursday’s meeting.
The loss of those roles would reduce district spending by $400,000 during fiscal year 2013-14, according to board documents.
Class sizes would continue to be one greater than the targets listed in the district’s policy, which are: 23 for grades K-1; 24 for grades 2-3; and 26 for grades 4-6. This would allow the district to eliminate three classrooms and three corresponding staff members.

Four of the five special education cuts would be achieved by altering the Reading and Math Intervention Program. It is not clear from the board documents how the fifth eliminated position would factor into special education programming.
The reductions are among 18 cuts that Superintendent Warren Shillinburg recommended to the board. The following chart outlines all of his proposals.
