AT&T, LeaderShop and Village Leaders Share Career Advice at 'Skills to Go' Workshop

AT&T Aspire program partners with The LeaderShop in La Grange and the Village Board to share college and career advice with local students at a 'Skills to Go' workshop in La Grange.

As part of its program to help students develop skills needed for college and future careers, AT&T, The LeaderShop and the La Grange Village Board on Thursday hosted a "Skills to Go" workshop for local students at the La Grange store.

Roughly 20 local high school students attended the event, where topics included improved communication and interviewing skills as well as setting career goals and job hunting tips.  The goal of the AT&T Aspire Mentoring Academy is to provide 1 million hours of mentoring to at-risk students.

AT&T Aspire announced in March of 2012 that it would tackle high school success and college/career readiness for students at-risk of dropping out of high school through a much larger, "socially innovative" approach over five years with a $250 million commitment, according to a news release from AT&T

"AT&T Aspire works toward an America where every student graduates high school equipped with the knowledge and skills to strengthen the nation's workforce," AT&T Chairman and CEO Randall Stephenson said while announcing the extended commitment during a keynote address at the second annual Building a Grad Nation Summit in 2012.

La Grange Village President Tom Livingston told students about his start as a journalist and journey to becoming the Village President, and gave them information on developing career skills.
